John  Thompson  Hendricks


          The new head of the Missouri Pacific-Iron Mountain Traffic Department was born in Shelbyville, Indiana, September 20, 1865, and started his railroad career in 1886 as a clerk in the general offices at Cincinnati of the Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton Railroad. Later he was made Contracting Frieght Agent for the railroad at Cincinnati, and 1890 became a Traveling Freight Agent for the Santa Fe out of the office of the General Agent of that road in Cincinnati. He was made General Agent of the International & Great Northern at Cincinnati in 1893. Later he was transferred to Houston, Texas, then to San Antonio as Traveling Freight Agent for the line, and was finally sent to Dallas, Texas, as General Agent of the Company. In 1897 he went to the Union Pacific as General Agent at Philadelphia. He left there November 1, 1905, to accept the position of Assistant General Freight Agent of the Western Maryland Railroad at Baltimore, Md. On January 15, 1906, he was made Freight Traffic Manager of the rad, and on the 16th of last October was promoted to be Vice-President in Charge of Traffic and also elected a director of the company.
