          Be It Known, that on the third day of April A.D., 1854, personally appeared in the Shelby Circuit Court, before the Clerk thereof,  Benedict Hasler  an alien, and reports himself for Naturalization, and being duly sworn on oath declares that he is a native of Switzerland aged about forty two years, and owes allegiance to the Government of Switzerland that he emigrated thence, embarked at Have De Grace and arrived at New York in the United States, on the day of May A.D., 1853 and that it is bona fide his intention to reside in and become A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, and to renounce forever All Allegiance and Fidelity to every Foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever; and particularly to Lewis Fisher Governor of Switzerland.

          Sworn and subscribed the 3d day of April 1854.

          In Testimony Whereof, I Jacob Vernon Clerk of the Shelby Circuit Court, hereunto set my name and the seal of said Court the above date.
