          Be it Known, that on the Second day of November A.D., 1852, personally appeared in the Shelby Circuit Court, before the Clerk thereof,  John Merrick  an alien, and reports himself for Naturalization, and being duly sworn on oath declares that he is a native of Ireland aged about 25 years, and owes allegiance to the Queen of England that he emigrated thence, embarked at Liverpool England and arrived at Burlington in the United States, on the last day of August A.D., 1846 and that it is bona fide his intention to reside in and become A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, and to renounce forever All Allegiance and Fidelity to every Foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever; and particularly to Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.
          Sworn and subscribed the 2d day of November 1852.

          In Testimony Whereof, I Jacob Vernon Clerk of the Shelby Circuit Court, hereunto set my name and the seal of said Court the above date.
