INDENTURE


Delitha McCarty  To  Joseph L. Worland
Received for Record March 6th 1867 at 3 o’clock p.m.

            This Indenture of Apprenticeship between Delitha McCarty and Joseph L. Worland of Shelby County in the State of Indiana Witnesseth that the said Delitha McCarty of the first part has and does hereby bind unto the said Joseph L. Worland of the second part as an apprentice her son John Taylor Ballard aged twelve (12) years on the Eighth of July last (1866) until the Eighth day of July 1875, from the date hereof to learn the trade and occupation of farming. And the said Delitha McCarty covenants faithfully the services of her said son John T. Ballard as such apprentice to the said Joseph L. Worland until the expiration of and during said term. And the said Joseph L. Worland covenants with the said Delitha McCarty for the benefit of the said John T. Ballard to teach the said John T. Ballard said trade and occupation and to provide him during said apprenticeship with all necessaries proper to his age and condition and cause him to be taught to read and write and the rules of Arithmetic to the Single rule of three if practicable and at the expiration of said term to furnish to him the said John T. Ballard a horse of the value of Eighty dollars a saddle and Bridle of the value of twenty dollars, or one Hundred dollars in cash. In witness whereof the said Delitha McCarty and Joseph L. Worland have hereunto set their hands and seals this 6th day of March AD 1867

            Before me David Louden Recorder within and for said County this 6th day of March 1867 Came Delitha McCarty and Joseph L. Worland who acknowledged the execution of the above Indenture for the uses and purposes therein mentioned.
