Last  Will  and  Testament
of
Carrie  Gatewood


          I,  Carrie Gatewood,  being of sound mind and disposing memory, do make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking any and all wills by me heretofore made.
          Item 1.  I direct that all my Just debts be paid and that my funeral expenses shall be born and paid by my daughter  Beatrice Zeigler, while my husband  Charles Gatewood   shall pay the Doctor’s bills and other expenses.
          Item Two.  I give to my son in law  Charles Zeigler,  the death benefits and money which my estate receives from the Royal Neighbors Lodge of which I am a member; this is to repay him for kindness shown to me.
          Item 3.  I will, devise and give to my beloved husband Charles Gatewood such of my household goods and effects as he may desire, also other personal property of which I may die possessed of including my Insurance from the Pochahantis Lodge of this City of which I am a member, also my horse, buggy and harness.
          Item 4.  The residue of my estate, real, personal and mixed, I will devise and bequeath to my daughter Beatrice Zeigler absolutely and in fee simple.
          Item 5.  I hereby appoint my son-in-law Charles Zeigler as the Executor of this my last Will and Testament.
          Witness my hand and seal this 30th day of August A.D. 1913.

          This will signed and declared to be her last Will and Testament by the said Carrie Gatewood in our presence and signed by us as witnesses in her presence and in the presence of each other as requested so to do by her.
          This August 30th 1913.

          Be It Remembered that on the 18” day of March AD 1914, the 39th Judicial day of the February Term of the Shelby Circuit Court in said year, came into open Court, Charles Zeigler and produces in Court an instrument in writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Carrie Gatewood, deceased and now moves the admittance thereof to probate and record and in proof of said Will introduces Thomas H. Campbell, the subscribing witnesses thereto who being duly sworn by the Clerk of said Court on oath declare and testify as follows, that is to say;  That on the 30” day of August 1913, he saw the said Carrie Gatewood sign her name to said instrument in writing as and for her last Will and Testament; and that this deponent at the same time heard the said Carrie Gatewood declare the said instrument in writing to  be her last Will and Testament; and that the said instrument in writing was, at the same time, at the request of the said Carrie Gatewood and with her consent attested and subscribed by the said Thomas H. Campbell and James K. Bowers in the presence of said testator, and in the presence of each other, as subscribing witnesses thereto and that the said Carrie Gatewood was at the time of the signing and subscribing of said instrument in writing as aforesaid of full age (that is, more than twenty-one years of age) and of sound and disposing mind and memory and not under any coercion or restraint, as the said deponent verily believes and further deponent says not.

          Whereupon it is ordered, adjudged and decreed by the Court that said instrument in writing purporting to be the last will of Carrie Gatewood deceased, is the last Will and Testament of Carrie Gatewood deceased and is hereby admitted to probate and record in this Court.

          I, Otto L. Coyle Clerk of the Circuit Court of Shelby County Indiana do hereby certify that the within annexed Will and Testament of Carrie Gatewood had been duly admitted to probate and duly proved by the testimony of Thomas H. Campbell, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, that a complete record of said Will and of the testimony of the said Thomas H. Campbell, in proof thereof, has been by me duly made and recorded in Book 6 at pages 448-449-450 of the record of Wills of said County.
        In Attestation Whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed the seal of said Court at Shelbyville, Indiana this 18” day of March 1914.
