          Appleton--- Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Appleton,  Shelbyville, a girl, Shannon, 6 pounds, 12 ounces, at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday in the Majors Hospital there.  The mother is the former  Sheila Rice.  The maternal grandparents are  Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Rice,  Shelbyville.  The foster grandparents are  Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Michel,  Tipton.  The father is the son of  Merle Appleton,  Tipton. R.R.2

          The case of  Appleton vs Benedict which occupied almost two days in the circuit court was compromised Tuesday afternoon.  Mr. Benedict purchased five feet eight inches of ground from Mrs. Appleton but the price was not given out.
