FREAKS  OF  A  MADMAN.

Columbus, Dec. 6. --- Abe Cook,  a well-to-do farmer, who resides near St. Louis Crossing, in this county, was taken violently insane this morning.  He took a child of his about a year old into a room, and locked the door and would allow no one to come in.  He fired several shots from a revolver during the day, and it was not known at four o'clock this afternoon whether the child was harmed or not.  A large crowd was gathered about the house during the day, but no one ventured to go in for fear of being shot.  His wife is almost frantic, as she fears he will kill himself and the child.  His father-in-law,  David Hager,  who resides here, went up late this evening to see if he could not persuade him to open the door and release the child.
