Mule Took Big Bite And Man Lost Finger
----------
Herbert Endicott, 20 years old, a resident of Washington township, met with a sad misfortune Thursday at the public sale held by  Riley Amos  at his home south of this city, the trouble being caused by the wild actions of a mule  Roy Young, of Washington township had purchased at the sale.  Mr. Endicott was assisting Mr. Young in bridling the mule when the animal became vicious and grabbed his hand, crushing the left index finger so badly that it had to be amputated at the second joint.  The surgical work was done by  Dr. W. W. Tindall, the victim being brought to the physician's office.  The sale attracted a great crowd and was one of the really big ones in the county, the total receipts being $3,000.

A Greensburg special says:  "Jas. G. Endicott  hanged himself, in the woodhouse at his home, on North Broadway, at 6:15 p.m. Monday.  He took a piece of cloth, tied it about his neck, stood upon a saw buck, adjusted it over a beam and stepped off.  He had said to his wife that he intended to do so, but she did not believe him in earnest.  When she saw him hanging she aroused the neighbors, but before help arrived he was dead.  Endicott was about fifty years old, an old soldier, a member of the G.A.R. post and a pensioner.  He had been in poor health for several years, and but ten days ago came home from the Soldiers' Home at Milwaukee.  He was living with his third wife, by whom he had no children, but he leaves a daughter in Cincinnati with her grandparents, a son at Indianapolis, and a married daughter in Kansas City.
