Claude  Barlow

          Claude "Hopper" Barlow,  65, 453 W. Franklin St., died Wednesday night at Major Hospital.  He had been hospitalized five weeks.
          Mr. Barlow had spent most of his life in Shelby County ans was employed with Continental Kitchesn here.  He was born in Shelby County June 20, 1909, the son of  William and  Rhoda (Land) Barlow.
          Surviving are three children,  Mrs. Jerry (Sharon) Fischer,  Shelbyville,  Mrs. Allen (Alta Mae) Cheatham,  Lockridge, Iowa, and  Carl W. Barlow,  stationed with the U.S. Navy in Spain; seven grandchildren; and three brothers,  Denny Barlow,  Shelbyville,  Gilbert Barlow,  Waldron, and  Leo Barlow,  Edinburg.  One brother and two sisters preceded in death.
          Services at the Murphy Mortuary are pending notification of the son in Spain and will be announced later.

Veteran Fireman Dies
At Home; Rites Monday

          Frank L. Barlow,  50, well-known Shelbyville fireman, died unexpectedly at his home on 14 W. Frnaklin St. at 8:15 this morning.  Death was attributed to a heart attack.
          Mr. Barlow was born in Ruch county on Sept. 22, 1904, and was the son of  Clyde J. and  Grace (Piles) Barlow.  He was married April 2, 1939, to  Ethel George  who survives with three brothers and two sisters,  Cecil and  Dale Barlow  of Indianapolis,  Emerson Barlow  of Stamford, Conn.,  Mrs. Winnie Albertson  of North Vernon and  Mrs. Florence Habig,  of St. Paul and several nieces and nephews.
          A former member of the Shelbyville police department, Mr. Barlow had been with the fire department for the past 19 years and was an employee of the R. C. Rogers Construction Co.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1920 to 1926 and was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Indiana State Policeman's and Firemen's Association.
          Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Murphy Mortuary with Rev. Allen N. Miller officiating.  Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.

Long Illness Is Fatal To
Mrs. Gracie Barlow, 70

          Mrs. Gracie G. Barlow,  70, former resident of this city, died at 12:20 this morning at the home of a daughter,  Mrs. Harold (Winnie) Albertson,  one mile north of North Vernon.  She had been in failing health since suffering a fractured hip in April, 1949 and her condition had been serious for 10 days.
          MRS.  BARLOW  had spent her entire adult life in Shelby, Rush and Decatur counties.  She was born in Alabama on June 19, 1881, the daughter of  John J. and  Mary E. (Powell) Piles.  On June 29, 1902, she was married to  Clyde J. Barlow,  whose death occurred on January 28, 1948.
          Six children born to the union survive.  With Mrs. Albertson they are  Frank L. Barlow,  local fireman;  Mrs. Florence Habig  of St. Paul;  Cecil W. and  Dale B. Barlow  of Indianapolis, and  Emerson  of Stamford, Conn.  Also surviving are a brother,  Harry R. Piles  of Douglas, Ariz., and nine grandchildren.

Clyde Barlow Dies Suddenly

Succumbs at St. Paul

          John Clyde Barlow, St. Paul resident and father of  Frank L. Barlow, local fireman, died suddenly of a heart attack Tuesday afternoon.  Mr. Barlow collapsed on the street at St. Paul and death occurred within a few minutes.  He was 65 years of age.
          Born on February 6, 1882, in Moscow, Rush county, he was the son of  William C.  and  Elsie (Parson) Barlow.  He had resided in the St. Paul community for the past five years.
          IN  JUNE  29, 1902,  he was married to  Grace G. Pile, who survives with six children.  With the son here they are  Cecil W.  and  Dale B. Barlow, of Indianapolis;  Mrs. Winnie P. Albertson, of North Vernon;  Emerson W. Barlow, of Stamford, Conn., and  Mrs. Florence L. Habig, of St. Paul.  Also surviving are two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Claude Sliger, of near Milroy;  Mrs. Nellie Inlow, of Manilla, and  Jesse Barlow, of Fairland R.R.1.  There also are eight grandchildren.
          Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the D.E. Carmony funeral home in St. Paul with Rev. W. F. McCoy officiating.  Burial will be made in the Moscow cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

          Funeral services for Harry Lee Barlow, seventy-three, who died of a heart attack Monday night about 9:00 o’clock while in the yard of his home at 733 Main street, will be conducted this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Loren H. Murphy funeral home where friends may call at any time. Rev. A.J. Spaulding will officiate at the service.
          Mr. Barlow was born in Moscow, Rush county, March 18, 1866, the son of  John and Melinda Barlow.  He had been a resident of Shelbyville since 1914.  Mr. Barlow, who was a painter by trade, was an accomplished musician, and was one of the organizers of the Old Shelbyville Military Band.  He had traveled with Barnum and Bailey’s Circus for several years.
          During his youth he attended the Moscow Christian church and had been a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
          He was married December 14, 1919 to  Blanche McGinnis, who survives with one son, Adrain, at home. Three children by a former marriage and a step-son also survive.  They are; Carl Barlow  and  Mrs. Pauline Garwood, of Chicago,  Mrs. Louis Ferleman, of this city, and Melbourne McGinnis, of Milroy.  Also surviving are a brother, James Barlow, of this city, three grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
          Burial will be made at the Moscow cemetery.

Death of Mrs. Angeline Barlow occurred Sunday at Wilson Home

Was Ill Many Months

          The death of  Mrs. Angeline Barlow, age 78 years, widow of  James Barlow, occurred Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the home of the Rev. and  Mrs. T. J. Wilson on the Columbus pike.  Mrs. Barlow had been a resident of the Mt. Auburn community for a number of years and had resided at the Wilson home for the past year.  She had been in failing health for some time.
          Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Auburn Christian church at one o'clock Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Wilson, officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery in charge of Charles M. Ewing.
          The deceased was born on July 23, 1852 and was an orphan at an early age.  She made her home with friends in this county until her marriage.  She leaves no immediate family but has a number of nephews and nieces and close friends in this county.
          She was a loyal member of the Mt. Auburn church and was a charter member of the Woman's Missionary Society.

DEATH  OCCURS  FRIDAY  NIGHT

          Mrs. Sarah E. Barlow, native of Shelby County, died at her home in Gowdy at 6 o’clock Friday evening.  Death was caused by a complication of diseases and followed an illness of eight weeks.  She was the wife of W. T. Barlow.  The deceased was born Oct. 21, 1855, being seventy-five years old at the time of death.  She had spent her entire life in Shelby and Rush counties.  Her parents were  Mr. and Mrs. Robert Freeland and she was the last of nine children.  Her marriage to Mr. Barlow took place on September 11, 1879.  To this union four children were born all of whom survive.  She was a devoted member of the Blue Ridge M E. church.  Surviving are the husband, two sons,  Lorenzo Barlow,  of Gowdy, and  William L. Barlow,  of Rushville; two daughters,  Mrs. Nellie Whitinger,  of Milroy, and  Miss Mary Barlow,  at home.  There are nine grandchildren who survive.  Funeral services will be conducted at the Gowdy M. E. church at two o’clock Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Oscar Jean, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the Blue Ridge cemetery in charge of Carmony Brothers.

DIED  OF  HEART  TROUBLE  SUNDAY.

          Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at one-thirty o'clock for  Mrs. Jane Barlowe,  widow of  Louis Barlowe,  who died at her home near Mt. Auburn Sunday afternoon at five o'clock.  Services were held at the late home with burial in the Mt. Auburn cemetery in charge of C. F. Fix and son.
          The death was caused from heart trouble from which the deceased had been ill for the past eight months.  She was eighty-three years of old and was born in Jackson township, Shelby county.  She was a daughter of the late  Mr. and Mrs. William Cutsinger  and was a faithful member of the Mt. Auburn Christian church.  Two daughters,  Mrs. Elijah Kendall,  of Mt. Auburn, and Mrs. Mary Pritchard,  of Edinburg, and one son, Ed Barlowe,  of Anderson, survive.  Mrs. Barlow also left three brothers,  James Cutsinger,  of Farmersburg,  Joseph Cutsinger,  of Bengal, and  Charles Cutsinger,  of Mt. Auburn.

Civil War Veteran Of Waldron Succumbs To Complication of Diseases

          Homer L. Barlow, civil war veteran and well known resident of Waldron, died at his home yesterday evening at four o’clock, following an illness lasting many weeks, caused by a complication of diseases.  The deceased was eighty-four years, four months and twenty-six days of age.
          Mr. Barlow was the son of  Louis and Anna (Brown) Barlow and was born near St. Omer in Decatur county on March 19, 1840.  He was married to  Martha C. Hauge  and to this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters.  Only a daughter survives,  Mrs. Howard [Eva May] Johnson of Waldron, the other three children and the wife having preceded him in death several years ago.  In 1872 Mr. Barlow was united in marriage with  Mary H. Steward  and one son           Besides the wife and two children mentioned, he leaves one sister,  Mrs. Mary A. Lane  of New Albany.  Mr. Barlow was a member of the Waldron M. E. church, Sulphur Hill lodge, Knights of Pythias and Dumont Post G.A.R. of this city.
          Funeral services will be held at the Waldron M. E. church on Friday afternoon at one o’clock, the Rev. R. O. Pearson, pastor of the Waldron M.E. church, officiating.  Interment will be made in the Star cemetery in Decatur county, Charles M. Ewing in charge.

After More Than Year of
Suffering From Lung Trou-
ble -- Husband and
Son Survive. ----------
          Mrs. Vashti D. Barlow  died at her home in Hendricks township, one and a half miles southeast of Bengal, Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock, aged twenty-two years, eleven months and eleven days.  Her death was caused from lung trouble, from which she had been suffering for more than a year, and during the last six weeks her condition had become critical, the physicians giving up all hope for her recovery.
          Deceased was born on a farm in Hendricks township, April 18, 1895, and was the daughter of the late  George and  Eliza Harris.  She had spent her entire life in Hendricks township and was one of the best known persons of that community.  She was united in marriage to  Elmer Barlow  on March 14, 914.  Their union was blessed with one son,  Dale Franklin,  three years old, who with the father survives.
          Besides the husband [and] son she leaves two sisters and two brothers, namely,  Mrs. Hezekiah Baker,  of Rio, W. Va., and  Mrs. Clarence Kramer,  of Batesville;  Charles and  Matthew Harris,  both of Hendricks township.
          She was a devout member of the Christian church at Franklin, uniting when a very young girl.
          Funeral services will be held Sunday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Second Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, the Rev. Mr. Chandler, of Franklin, officiating, and burial will be made in the church cemetery in charge of Stewart & Fix, undertakers.

          Mr. William Barlow  died at his residence in Orange township, Rush county, at 1:30 o'clock a.m., July 10, aged seventy-six years.  The funeral will occur at ten o'clock a.m. July 11.  Interment at the Moscow cemetery, D. B. Wilson, duneral director.
