          Mary Elizabeth Bowlby,  69, R.R. [?] Shelbyville, died at 7:10 a.m. today at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove.  She had been in failing health for two years and seriously ill for the past five weeks.  Mrs. Bowlby was born in Shelby County March 30, 1911 to  Edgar and  Mary (Walker) Hodson,  and married  Carl Bowlby  on Oct. 9, 1934 in Pendleton.  He survives.  Also surviving are three children:  Charlie Bowlby  and  Mrs. Harry (Eul) Smith,  both of Shelbyville, and  Mrs. D. (Mary Helen) Buckley  of Muncie, and eight grandchildren.  One sister and one brother preceded in death.
          Mrs. Bowlby formerly worked for the Stanley Jone Insurance Co. and was bookkeeper for Bowlby Oil Co. from 19[??] until she became ill.  A lifelong resident of Shelby County, she was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the Tompson Community Club for years.
          Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ewing Mortuary.  Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.  Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

CHURCH  LEADER  IN  SHELBYVILLE  DIES

Mrs.  Mary  E. Bowlby,  Age  72,  Was  Widow  of  Physician,
Mother  of  Librarian.

          SHELBYVILLE, Ind., March 9 (Spl.) -- Funeral services were held for  Mrs. Mary E. Bowlby,  age seventy-two, prominent for many years in church and women's affairs here.  She died following a stroke of paralysis.  She was a lifelong resident of the county and was the widow of  Dr. Joseph Bowlby,  physician, who died in 1906.
          Mrs. Bowlby is survived by two daughters,  Miss Bertha Bowlby,  city librarian, and  Mrs. Bernice McLane,  also of this city; a granddaughter,  Miss Helen McLane,  student at Stevens College, Columbia, Mo.; a sister,  Mrs. Otto Billamn,  of this city, and two brothers,  Dr. J. E. Yarling,  Peru, and  William A. Yarling,  of this city, former state senator.  She was a member of the Prist Presbyterian church and the Order of Eastern Star.
