MORRISTOWN  MARINE

----------
Willard E. Hensley, Who En-
Listed at Indianapolis One
Year Ago, Died During An
Engagement.
----------
FELT  HIS  DANGER
----------
Letter Which He Had Written May 25
Was Received by Friend Today --
Was Member of Sixth Regiment.
----------
Mrs. Prudence Hensley,  of Morristown, received a telegram Tuesday night from the war department, informing her that her son,  Willard E. Hensley,  had been killed in action in France.  The message stated that the young man had died in an engagement extending from June 6 to June 8.
Young Hensley was 23 years old.  He enlisted in the Unisted States marine corps at Indianapolis on June 13, 1917.  He was a member of the 97th company, 6th regiment.  He had been in France for several months.  When the message bringing the news of his death was received at Morristown, Mrs. Hensley was visiting with relatives at Needham, Johnson county.
The telegram received by the mother brought word that the body would be brought to this country after the war.
A letter which the young marine had written was received this morning by  Miss Eva Talbert,  a friend, of Morristown.  The letter had been written May 25.  In it he told of the great danger in which the company was at the time, and hinted of a thought that he might never return to his home in Morristown.  Continuing he spoke of the scenes about the village to which he lived and spoke of the good times which he had enjoyed in and about Morristown.  Letters which were received from him about two weeks ago told of some hard fighting in which the marines had been engaged on the Cantigny front, where the Germans had been pressed back by the American fighters.
Young Hensley had attained the rank of a sergeant, and had been on the firing line since March.  He was a graduate of the high school at Morristown, and before enlisting in the marines had been employed in a hardware store there.  His is the first Hanover township boy to be killed France, and the fourth Shelby county boy to die on the firing line in the present war.
