LANDWERLEN

          Private services for  George J. Landwerlen,  51,  135 W. Hendricks St., were held this afternoon at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
          He was dead on arrival at 10 a.m. Monday at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg, after becoming ill suddenly at the Stephenson Jewelry Store in Greensburg where he was employed.
          Burial was in the Richland (Ind.) Cemetery.  No calling hours were observed.
          A watchmaker Mr. Landwerlen had been employed by the Stephenson Jewelry Store since 1958.  He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and had been a staff sergeant in the Air Force.
          Born June 28, 1929 in Shelby County, the son of  John H. and  Helen ([can't read] Landwerlen, he married  Miriam C[can't read] in Batesville on Sept. 28, 1955.  She survives.
          Also surviving are his parents, of Shelbyville and a sister  Mrs. How[can't read] (Mary Frances) Denton, Shelbyville.

FORMER  CITY  MAN  SUCCUMBS

          Benjamin Landwerlen, 80, former resident of this city, died in Indianapolis Sunday morning at 10:00 o’clock.
          Mr. Landwerlen, a retired farmer, was born in Shelby county on March 1, 1870, the son of John and Mary (Randolph) Landwerlen.  His wife, Eliza Jane Landwerlen, preceded him in death on April 20, 1945.  The only survivors are several nieces and nephews.
          Funeral services will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic church Wednesday morning at 9:00 o’clock.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Murphy Mortuary in charge.

LOCAL WOMAN DEAD AT HOME

Funeral Monday For Mrs. Eliza J. Landwerlen
----------
          Mrs. Eliza Jane Landwerlen, age 72, died at her home at 154 east Pennsylvania Street, at 1:30 a.m. Friday.  She had been ill for the past several years and her condition had been critical for the last six weeks.  Death was due to a complication of diseases.
          Mrs. Landwerlen was born in Scott county, Kentucky, on May 15, 1873, the daughter of  Thomas and  Susan Karr Connley.  She came to Shelby county early in her life.  She was married to  Bert Jarrell, of near Rays Crossing, and his death occurred 35 years ago.  One of two sons,  Jesse Jarrell, of this city, survives.  She was later married to  Benjamin Landwerlen.  He survives with one brother,  Julius Connley, of Michigan; a sister,  Mrs. Josie Hill, of near Arlington; a half-sister,  Mrs. Elizabeth Linville, of Florida, and a granddaughter,  Miss Phyllis Jarrell, of this city.
          Mrs. Landwerlen was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, where funeral services will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. with Rev. Clement Zepf officiating.  Burial will be made in the church cemetery in charge of Loren Murphy.

          Residents of the county will be shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Hattie Landwerlin, which occurred Sunday morning at 3:30 o’clock at her home in Brandywine township.
          Mrs. Landwerlin had been apparently in good health, having been a visitor to this city Saturday.  Her death, which was sudden, was caused by apoplexy.
          The esteemed woman was the daughter of  Mr. and Mrs. John F. Meltzer, and was born May 17, 1861, near Meltzerville, at the home of her parents.  She was at the time of death 62 years old.  She received her education in Liberty township, and was married to  John M. Landwerlin.  Mrs. Landwerlin was a member of the German Lutheran church.
          Mrs. Landwerlin is survived by three daughters.  Mrs. John Schrader of Fairland,  Miss Lena Landwerlin at home;  Mrs. Helen Smith, at home, two sons,  Harry, of this city, and  Russell, at home.
          Short funeral services will be held at the late home at 1:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. John C. Hager officiating.  Burial will be made in St. Joseph cemetery, with Ralph J. Edwards, undertaker, in charge.

          John Landwerlen, eighty-seven years old, died Tuesday morning at 3:15 o’clock at his home in Elm Street.  His death was caused by a complication of diseases.  Mr. Landwerlen had lived in Shelby county for forty years and was widely and favorably known.
          He was a native of Alsace-Lorraine, having been born there October 28, 1830.  He had often expressed the desire to live long enough to see his native land wrested away from the Germans.
          He is survived by four sons,  Albert, of Eugene, Oregon;  Benjamin, of east of Shelbyville;  Louis and  Vincent, of Indianapolis; and two daughters,  Mrs. Enos Stubbs, who lived with her father ; and  Mrs. Kate Rinner, of Lawrence, Kansas. Mr. Landwerlen was a member of the St. Joseph’s church in this city.
          Funeral services will be held Friday morning at nine o’clock at the church, the Rev. Father George Borries officiating.  Burial will be made in the church cemetery.  Ralph J. Edwards in charge.

John Landwerlen, Prominent Farmer Died Last Night
After Brief Illness Caused By Small Sore

          Death coming after only a brief illness claimed for its number last night John Landwerlen, a prominent farmer living north of this city about four and a half miles on the Michigan pike.  Mr. Landwerlen had been ill only since last Tuesday, a serious attack of blood poisoning developing from a small sore on a finger on his left hand.  Mr. Landwerlen was a splendid specimen of physical health being large and strong and seldom ill. Yesterday his condition became so serious that his family began to have grave fears for his recovery and his death occurred about midnight. He was 57 years of age.
          Mr. Landwerlen was a son of John Landwerlen, Sr., residing on Elm street of this city.  The older Mr. Landwerlen was a native of France and his father was a member of Napoleon’s body guard.  The family has had an interesting history.  John Landwerlen, Jr. married  Miss Hattie Meltzer  of Meltzerville and all their married life had been happily spent in this county.  His wife survives with their five children,  Helen Smith, the wife of  Floyd Smith of west Taylor street;  EmmaHarry,  Russell  and  Lena all at home.  He has two sisters and four brothers.  They are  Mrs. Lena Staulb, who makes her home with her father here;  Mrs. Allen Renner, of Kansas;  Louis and  Vincent Landwerlen both of Indianapolis;  Ben who lives on the home place east of town and  Albert of Oregon.
          Mr. Landwerlen and his family were devout members of the St. Joseph Catholic church.
          The funeral services for Mr. Landwerlen will be conducted at nine o’clock on Thursday morning at the St. Joseph Catholic church here by the Rev. Father Borries and burial will be made at St. Joseph cemetery by Ralph J. Edwards, undertaker.

Mrs. John Landwerlin Passed away At Home on Elm Street
At Eleven O’clock Of Complications of Diseases

          Mrs. John [Mary Anne] Landwerlin, aged seventy-eight years, eleven months and twenty-two days, died at the home on Elm street. Death was caused by a complication of diseases.
          Mrs. Landwerlin was a native of Bottenheim, Alsace, and was born there February 9, 1836. She grew to womanhood and was married in the land of her nativity. Shortly after her marriage she and her husband came to America, they coming to this part of the country in 1854. Since that time they have resided in this county continuously. For the past few years they had been residents of this city.
          Mr. and Mrs. Landwerlin were the parents of ten children, seven of whom survive.  They are Mrs. John StulbJohn and  Benjamin Landwerlin, of this county;  Louis and  Vincent, of Indianapolis;  Albert, of Eugene, Oregon, and  Mrs. Renner, of Lawrence, Kansas.  One brother and two sisters also survive - John Rudolph  and sisters  Delphine  and  Veronica,  all of Oldenburg.
          Mrs. Landwerlin was a life long member of the Catholic Church, and for the past several years had held membership in St. Joseph’s church here.
          The funeral services will be held Saturday morning at nine o’clock at the St. Joseph Catholic church, in this city.  Burial will be made in the St. Joseph cemetery.

OTTO  THOMAS  LANDWERLIN

Died Sunday Afternoon at Home
in Brandywine Township

          Otto Thomas Landwerlin, twenty-five years old, died Sunday afternoon at one-fifteen o’clock at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Landwerlin, of Brandywine township. His death was caused by tuberculosis.  The young man had suffered with the disease for about a year.
          Mr. Landwerlin had lived his entire life in Shelby county.  He was born December 15, 1889. January 24, 1912, he was married to  Miss Alta May Hobart. Besides his widow and his parents he leaves one daughter, three years old, and a six months’ old son.  He also leaves his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Landwerlin, Sr. of this city; two brothers, Harry and Russell, at home, and Mrs. Helen Smith of this county
          The funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at nine o’clock at the St. Joseph Catholic church, the Rev. Father A. Kaelin officiating.  Burial will be made in St. Joseph cemetery.

          Francis Joseph Landwerlen,  son of  Mr. and Mrs. John Landwerlen, Sr., of Liberty township, died of cancer at the home of his parents, one-half mile northeast of St. Vincent’s church, at 10:30 o’clock Friday morning, at the age of forty-nine years, three months and ten days.  The deceased is survived by his parents,  Mr. and Mrs. John Landwerlen, with whom he had always made his home, and five brothers and two sisters.  They are  George A. Landwerlen, of Eugene, Oregon;  John, of this county;  Louis and  Vincent, of Indianapolis;  Benjamin, of Strawlerty, Montana;  Mrs. Louis Renner of Peria, Kansas, and  Mrs. John Stulb, of Indianapolis.  The funeral services will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic church here at 9 o’clock Monday morning, the Rev. Father Kaelin officiating.  Interment will be made in the St. Joseph cemetery.  Ralph J. Edwards in charge.

          Elizabeth F.,  the two year old daughter of  Mr. and Mrs. John M.
