          SPRINGFIELD, IL - Shirley J. Owings,  59, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014. at Memorial Medical Center.  She was born June 23, 1955, in Springfield, to  Leroy and  Melba Owings.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother,  Michael Owings.  Survivors include one daughter,  Madaline (Gabriel) Luhn  of Sherman; two sons,  William (Shawna) Franklin  of Dongola, Ill., and  Nathan  (fiancée, Changho) of Springfield; sisters:  Rosalie Holmes,  Brenda Cordier,  Gloria Snow,  Patsy Diles,  Debbie (Greg) Brown  and  Sharon Fairclough;  one brother,  William (Kay) Owings, Sr.;  and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Shirley was a resident of Springfield and retired from the State of Illinois.
          Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home.  Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home with the Rev.           SPRINGFIELD - Melba R. Owings,  77, of Springfield died Friday, June 30, 2000, at her daughter's residence.  She was born March 7, 1923, in Green [sic--Greene] County, Ind., the daughter of  Earl and  Lula M. Miller Hoops.  She married  LeRoy Owings  in 1938; he died in 1978.  A son,  Michael Owings,  also preceded her in death.  Mrs. Owings was a resident of Springfield since 1947.  She was employed as a custodian for Springfield School District 186 for 25 years.  She was a member of New Life Worship Church.
          Survivors: seven daughters,  Rosalie Holmes,  Sharon Fairclough,  Shirley Owings  and  Deborah (husband, Greg) Brown,  all of Springfield,  Gloria (husband, Charles) Snow  of Girard,  Brenda Cordier  of Whittier, Calif., and  Patsy Diles  of Hannibal, Mo.; a son,  William (wife, Kay) Owings Sr.  of Springfield; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters,  Delores Cunningham  of LaPorte, Ind.,  Wilma (husband, Bill) Stephens  of Linton, Ind., and  Ada (husband, Truman) King  of Hamlet, Ind.; two brothers,  Jesse (wife, Norma) and  Gilbert Hoops,  both of LaPorte, Ind.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
          Services:  Noon Monday, New Life Worship Church, the Rev. Daniel Roseberry officiating.  Burial:  Camp Butler National Cemetery.  Staab Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

          Mr. Michael L. Owings,  33, of Springfield died at 11:09 a.m. Thursday at his residence.  He was born Jan. 6, 1957, in Springfield, the son of  LeRoy and  Melba Hoops Owings.  His father preceded him in death in 1978.  A lifelong resident of Springfield, Mr. Owings was a private duty certified nursing assistant.
          Surviving are his mother,  Mrs. Melba Owings  of Springfield; seven sisters,  Rosalie Holmes,  Shirley Owings  and  Mrs. Greg (Debbie) Brown,  all of Springfield,  Mrs. Charles (Gloria) Snow  of Girard,  Brenda Cordier  of Whittier, Calif.,  Mrs. Dan (Patsy) Diles  of Kansas City, Mo., and  Sharon Fairclough  of Aurora; one brother,  William L. Owings Sr.  of Springfield; several aunts and uncles; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
          Services will be at held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Delbert Wells officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

          LeRoy "Bill" Owings,  62, of 1129 N. Rutledge, died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Medical Center.  Born in Sullivan, Ind., Mr. Owings was a resident of Springfield for 31 years.  He was a member of Bethel Assembly Church and a veteran of World War II.
          Surviving are his wife,  Melba;  seven daughters,  Mrs. Delbert (Rosalie) HolmesMrs. Bill (Brenda) ShirleyMrs. Dan (Patsy) DilesSharon Fairchough [sic Fairclough]Miss Shirley Owings  and  Mrs. Greg (Deborah) Brown,  all of Springfield,  Mrs. Charles (Gloria) Snow  of Farmersville; two sons,  William LeRoy and  Michael Lee,  both of Springfield;15 grandchildren.
          Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Staab Funeral Home, the Rev. Delbert Wells officiating.  Burial in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
