DEATH  CLAIMS  BEN  F.  PIATT
Local Furniture Man, 72, Dies in Hospital

          Ben F. Piatt, 72, president of the Piatt Furniture Company, 222 S. Harrison St., and widely known local resident, died at an Indianapolis hospital at 10:00 o'clock this morning following an illness of 18 months.
          A native of Hendricks township, Mr. Piatt, whose home was at 1002 S. Noble St., had resided in Shelbyville since a young man.  For a number of years he was employed at the old S. B. Morris Company and the Eschmeyer Carpet Company here and in 1923 entered the furniture store business for himself on E. Washington St.,  He was a member of the First Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Eagles lodge.
          The son of  Estel and  Laura (Cramer) Piatt, he was born on April 22, 1882.  He first was married to  Reba Drummond  who preceded him in death.  Two daughters survive from this marriage, Mrs. A. J. McQueen  of Flat Rock and  Mrs. Herman Roell  of this city.  His second marriage was to  Mrs. Ruth (Sandman) Sanders, who survives with a step-daughter, Carole Ann Sanders, a sister, Mrs. Viola Murphy  of this city, and two grandchildren.
          Funeral services will be announced from the Murphy Mortuary.
