----------
Greenup Stafford, one of the old and honored citizens of Shelby county, died at his home two and one half miles south of town, last night shortly after 6 o'clock.  He has been suffering for a long time with rheumatism but the immediate cause of his death was paralysis of the heart.  He ate supper as usual and appeared to be in his customary health.  A few minutes before his death he passed into an adjoining room and in returning fainted.  A messenger was sent for Dr. G. W. Fleming but before he arrived Mr. Stafford had passed over the dark river of death.  He was seventy-six years of age and leaves a wife and children to mourn his death.  Mr. Stafford celebrated his golden wedding which was attended by over two hundred friends among whom was the writer of this obituary notice.  The event was a very pleasant one and will long be remembered by those friends of the deceased who were present.  The funeral services will be held on Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at the Lewis Creek Baptist church, the Rev. John Reece officiating assisted by the Rev. W. W. Smith.
