Betty Jean Smith Sweany, 81, formally of Flat Rock, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Hospice of Arizona, Scottsdale.
Born Feb. 8, 1929, Shelbyville, to  Raymond Oliver  and  Mary Rose (Cotton) Smith.
Married  Wayne Dee Sweany, son of  Clark Deputy  and  Beulah Fern (Lewis) Sweany, on Oct. 16, 1953; he preceded her in death in 1995.
Survivors include her daughter,  RoxAnne Sweany  of Nashville, Tenn.; brothers,  Don Smith  of Georgia and  Jerry Smith  of Shelbyville; brother-in-law,  Larry Sweany  (wife, Marjorie) of Indianapolis; and sister-in-law,  Joyce Dow  (husband, Gene) of Texas.
Preceded in death by her parents, brothers,  Raymond Smith Jr.,  Jack O. Smith  and  Dale Smith; sisters,  Deloris Smith Willison  and  Louise Smith Wetter.
Moved to a retirement community in Florence, Ariz., from Flat Rock in 1996.
Loved playing cards and going on bus trips with her many dear friends.
Active with husband in the Shelby Shifters Car Club; many friends in the Shelbyville area.
Burial:  Flat Rock Cemetery in Shelby County.
Contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or any local Hospice.
