State of Indiana  August Term Eighteen hundred and forty six
Shelby County  SS
          The Grand Jurors of the State of Indiana empanelled sworn and charged to enquire within and for the body of the County of Shelby aforesaid on their oath present that on the ___ day of ____ in the year Eighteen hundred and forty four William Conner late of said county together with  Lucy Conner  wife of him said William Conner were seized in fee simple of a certain undivided third part of a certain Eight acre lot of Land situate and lying in said county of Shelby that the said William Conner and Lucy Conner his said wife did then & there convey by deed their joint deed to one William Caster the said undivided third part of said eighty acre lot of land lying and situate as aforesaid.           And the Jurors aforesaid on their oath aforesaid do further present that on the day and year last aforesaid the said William Conner did then and there unlawfully knowingly and designedly falsely pretend to the said  William Caster  that he the said William Conner was then of the age of twenty one years by means of which said false pretense the said William Conner did then and there unlawfully knowingly and designedly obtain from the said William Caster the a certain house of the value of fifty five dollars and the signature of the said William Conner Caster to a certain promissory note for the payment by the said William Caster to the said William Conner of the sum of thirty dollars of the value of thirty dollars as the price of the said undivided third part of the said eighty acre lot Lot situate so conveyed as aforesaid with intent then and there to cheat and defraud him the said William Caster of the said house of the value as aforesaid and of his the said William Caster’s signature to the said promissory note as aforesaid  Whereas in truth and in fact the said William Conner was not then of the age of twenty one years to the great damage and deception of the said William Caster towit the damage of eighty five dollars contrary to the law of the Statute in such case made and provided and against the peace and dignity of the State of Indiana

          The State of Indiana to the Sheriff of Shelby County, Greeting:-
You are hereby commanded to summon  Patrick Maloy , Willliam Kaster  and  Henry F. Hinds
          To personally be and appear before the Judges of the Shelby Circuit Court, on the first day of the next term, to be holden at the Court House, in Shelbyville, on the 3d Monday of February next, to testify on the behalf of the plaintiff in a certain case therein pending between The State of Indiana Plaintiff, and William Conner Defendant.           And herein they may not fail at their peril.          Have you then there this writ.

          The State of Indiana to the Sheriff of Shelby County, Greeting:-
You are hereby commanded to take into your custody the body of William Conner and him safely keep so that you have him before the Judges of the Shelby Circuit Court on the first day of their next Term, to be holden at the Court House, in Shelbyville, on the 3d Monday of February in the year 1847 then and there answer to an Indictment preferred against him for obtaining property under false pretenses.          And not depart without leave of said Court.          And have you then there this writ.

          Be It Remembered, That on the 13 day of February in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and forty seven William Conner and John Cartmill Personally appeared before me, Alexander Miller, Sheriff of County aforesaid, who acknowledged themselves to owe and be indebted unto the State of Indiana, in the penal sum of Five hundred dollars each, to be levied on their goods, chattels, lands and tenements.          Yet to be void on the following condition, to wit—that the above bounden William Conner Personally be and appear before the Judges of the Shelby Circuit Court, on the first day of their next term, to be holden at the Court House in Shelbyville on the 3d Monday in February next, and then and there to answer the State of Indiana, on an Indictment for obtaining property under false pretenses          And not depart thence without leave of said court.                                                                           William Conner   John Cartmill
