The State of Indiana Ex Rel
Dora Hall                                Complaint for Bastardy
   
     vs
Edward Harrell

On this 5" day of December 1894 comes the Relatrix  Dora Hall  and filed before said Justice Lacey the following complaint towit:
"State of Indiana Shelby County ss
            On this 5" day of December 1894 Plaintiff filed with me the following:
Dora Hall
    vs
Edward Harrell
                        Dora Hall being duly sworn says that she is pregnant with a bastard child which if born alive will be a bastard and that Edward Harrell is the father of said child.

        Subscribed and sworn to before me this 5" day of December 1894.         Joseph D. Lacey, J.P.

Now on this 6th day of December 1894 this docket with all the papers in said cause was turned over to me and said complaint was also filed with me as Justice of the Peace as the successor in office of said Joseph D. Lacey resigned.
        And thereupon I issued a warrant for said defendant Edward Harrell upon said complaint and delivered the same to  Stephen B. Mann  Depty Constable who returned the same served and brought said defendant into Court on the 7" day of December 1894.  And the plaintiff not being ready for trial continued said cause until the 14" day of December 1894 at 10 oclock AM. and the defendant gave a bond with  James H. Harrell  as surety for his appearance on said day in sum of $300. which was approved by me.  And now on the 14" day of December 1894 at the hour set for trial comes the deft by himself and attorney and comes the plaintiff by attorney and the plaintiff not being ready for trial on account of sickness this cause is continued until January 5" 1895 at 10 oclock AM. and defendant again entered into a bond in the sum of $300. with James H. Harrell as surety for his appearance at that time, which is approved by me and now towit:  on the 24" day of December 1894 come the parties in the plaintiff Relatrix in person and by Hord and Adam's attorneys and comes also the defendant by his attorney and announced to the Court that they have agreed upon a settlement and compromise of said cause.  And said Relatrix appearing before me in person together with  Albert Dobbins  her godfather and with whom she resides and presents and files with me the following written satisfaction and Release on said cause towit:
"The State of Indiana Shelby County
Before Justice Higgins
The State of Indiana
Ex Rel Dora Hall
        vs
Edward Harrell
                        Now comes the Relatrix and in open Court acknowledges that provision to her satisfaction has been made for the support of the bastard child named in the Complaint and she authorizes Hord and Adams her attorneys to enter this acknowledgement of record.    December 24, 1894

And the Court having heard the statements of said Relatrix and said Albert Dobbins and having examined said Relatrix, and she being under 21 years of age and over 18 years of age, and being fully advised finds that full and ample provision has been  [These pages have been separated from the rest of the book.  Hopefully we will find the entire book.]
