This Indenture made this seventh day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty six between Moses Portlock and Sally Portlock his wife of the county of Marion and state of Indiana of the first part and John Means of the county of Shelby and state aforesaid of the second part Witnesseth that the said part of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Four hundred and ten dollars to them in hand paid by the said part of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and doth by these presents grant bargain and sell unto the said part of the second part his heirs and assigns forever all that certain piece parcel or tract of land lying and being in the county of Shelby and state of Indiana it being the west half of the North West Quarter of section Number Ninteen in township Number fourteen North of Range Number six east estimated to contain seventy four acres and six hundredths be the same more or less Together with all and singular the appurtanances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining, to have and to hold the said piece parcel or tract of land above described unto the part of the second part his heirs and assigns forever. And the said part of the first for themselves their heirs executors and administrators do covenant and agree to and with the said part of the second part his heirs and assigns that they have good right full power and lawful authority to grant bargain and sell the same and that the said piece parcel or tract of land is free and clear of all incumbrance whatsoever, and that the same and every part and parcel thereof in the quiet and peaceable possession of the said part of the second part his heirs and assigns they the said party of the first part will forever warrant and defend. In witness whereof the said party of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

Before me the undersigned a justice of the peace in and for the county of Marion aforesaid personally appeared Moses Portlock and Sally Portlock his wife and severally acknowledged the foregoing deed of conveyance to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned. And Sally Portlock the wife of the said Moses Portlock having by me examined seperate and apart from her said husband & the contents of the above indenture being by me made known to her she declared that she did voluntarily of her own free will and accord as her act and deed acknowledge sign and deliver the above deed without any compulsion from her said husband whatsoever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh day of Sept. 1836.
