This Indenture made the first day of January in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty six between William
Smith and Thomas F. Randolph and also their wifes Elisabeth Smith the
wife of William Smith and also Katharine Randolph the wife of Thomas F. Randolph
of the county of Shelby and state of Indiana of the first part and John J
Lewis of the county of Shelby and state aforesaid of the second part
Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the
sum of ____ hundred and fifty dollrs lawful money of the United States to them
in hand paid by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is
acknowledged by the said party of the first part hath granted Bargained sold and
by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said party of the second
part and their heirs and assigns forever all that certain tract or parcel of
Land lying and being in the county of Shelby and state of Indiana being the East
half of the North West quarter of section twenty six in township Eleven of Range
six in the district of Brookville and state of Indiana containing Eighty acres
be the same more or less. To have and to hold the above described premises
hereby sold and conveyed unto the said party of the second part and their heirs
and assigns forever. Together with all and singular the appurtanances thereunto
belonging or in any wise appertaining to [blank] own proper use and behoof And
the said party of the first part for themselves their heirs executors and
administrators will warrant and forever defend the aforesaid tract of land with
the appurtanances and every part thereof to the said party of the second part
and his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever against the legal
claim or claims of all and every person or persons whomsoever. In testimony
whereof the said William Smith and Thomas F. Randolph and their wives Elisabeth
Smith and Katharine Randolph hath hereunto set their hands and seals the day and
year first above written.

Before me John Cutsinger a justice of the peace within and
for said county Personally came William Smith and Thomas F Randolph the above
named grantors and acknowledged the above deed of conveyance to be their act and
deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned. And also personally appeared
Katharine Randolph the wife of Thomas F. Randolph the wife of the said and also
Elisabeth Smith the wife of William Smith and being by me examined seperate and
apart from their said husbands and the full purposes and meaning of the above
deed being made known to them they acknowledged that they signed sealed and
delivered the same and relinquished their right and title to dower in the above
described premises of their own free will and accord and as their act and deed
without any coercion or compulsion of their said husbands. In witness whereof I
have hereunto set my hand and seal this the first day of January 1836.
