This indenture witnesseth that whereas
Mary A. A. Foster aged about
four years daughter of one Rhoda Foster who has abandoned and neglected
to support the said Mary and likewise unable to support the said Mary and she
being at this time a County charge and supported by the County of Shelby in the
State of Indiana in which she is now a resident of Brandywine Township in said
County and has been such since her birth, and the said Mary having no legitimate
father therefore I, Morgan Watts Trustee and Overseer of the Poor in and
for said Township of Brandywine in said County of Shelby in the State of Indiana
do by these presents bind and hath hereby bound as an apprentice the said Mary
A. A. Foster unto one Sylvester Kinney who is a bona fide resident of said
County, until the said Mary shall arrive at the age of Eighteen years which will
be about the 1st day of January A.D. 1893 from the date thereof to learn the
business and occupation of Housekeeping and other business incident thereto. And
the said Mary by the said Trustee Covenants to serve the said Kinney faithfully.
And the said Kinney, hereby covenants with the said Watts as such Trustee and
the said Mary to teach the said Mary the said business and occupation and to
provide her during such apprenticeship with all necessaries proper to her age
and condition and to cause her to be taught to read and write and the rules of
Arithmetic to the double rules of three inclusive if practicable and at the
expiration of said term to furnish the said Mary with one good Bed and Bedding.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set out hands and seals this 11th day of

Francis M. Conner a Notary Public in and for said County this 11th
day of September AD 1869 personally came Morgan Watts as Trustee and Overseer of
the Poor in and for Brandywine Township in said County and Sylvester Kinney and
acknowledged the execution of the above Indenture of Apprenticeship for the
purpose therein mentioned.
