INDENTURE
Thomas H. Wherrit Aaron Fix Overseers of the Poor Indenture Tunis Spurlin

This Indenture made this forth day of August in the year of our Lord
eighteen hundred and fifty two Between Thomas H. Wherritt and Aaron
Fix Overseers of the poor of Washington Township in the County of Shelby
and State of Indiana of the one part and Tunis Spurling of the County
aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Overseers have put placed
and bound and do by these presents put place and bind Maryetta Minton a
poor Girl aged seven years of age as a bound Girl to the said Tunis Spurling
to live with and serve him the said Tunis Spurlin as a Bound girl for the term
of Eleven years from this date that is to say until she the said Maryetta
Minton shall arrive to the age of eighteen years, if the said Maryetta Minton
shall so long live. And the said Overseers do by these presents give unto the
said Tunis Spurling all the right power and authority over the said Maryetta
Minton and her services during the said term which by the laws of this state a
Master has in and over a lawfully indented apprentice. And the said Tunis
Spurling in consideration thereof doth on his part covenant promise and agree
to and with the said Overseers and their successors in office and each and
every of them and with the said Maryetta Minton that he will teach and
instruct the said Maryetta Minton as his apprentice or cause her to be taught
and instructed to read and right and to be instructed in general rules of
arithmetic at least to the double rule of three inclusive and train her to
habits of industry and morality and during the term of her apprenticeship to
provide and allow to her sufficient meat drink washing lodging and apparel and
all other things necessary for an apprentice during her said term of
apprenticeship and the said Tunis Spurling further covenants and agrees to
furnish and give the said apprentice at the expiration of her aforesaid term
of service one good bed and bedding of the value of at least
and wearing appearil worth at least twenty two Dollars
In witness whereof the said parties have hereunto set their hands and seals
the year and day above written.

Personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for
said County Thomas H. Wherritt Aaron Fix and Tunis Spurling and acknowledged
the foregoing instrument of writing to the their voluntary act and deed for
the purposes therein mentioned.
