William Mitchell Indenture from Overseers of Poor
This Indenture made this 29th day of June 1841 between Alexander Vanpelt and Abraham Ogden Overseers of the poor for Noble Township Shelby County Indiana of the one part and William Mitchell of the other part Witnesseth that the said Overseers as aforesaid doth put place and bind Henry Rathburn aged Nine years the tenth of October 1841 untill he is 21 years old to said William Mitchell to be by said Mitchell taught the business of farming ... . And said William as aforesaid doth bind himself to clothe board and take care of said Henry by a kind and gental manner. And William as aforesaid doth bind himself to school said Henry as aforesaid untill the said Henry shall have a good common edducation.

George Rathburn Indenture from Overseers of Poor
This Indenture made this 29th day of June 1841 between Abraham Ogden and Alexander Vanpelt Overseers of the poor for Noble Township Shelby County Indiana of the one part and George Rathburn of the same place of the second part Witnesseth that the said Overseers as aforesaid doth put place and bind John Rathburn a minor aged four years old on the ninth of April 1841 to be by said George Rathburn taught the farming arts in all its branches (copy unreadable)

Note: The indentured boys, Henry & Thomas Rathburn, were the orphan sons of Thomas Rathburn (jr), son of Thomas Rathburn (sr). Thomas (sr) was the father of George Rathburn and Sarah Ann Rathburn, who married James H. Mitchell, brother of William.
