This Indenture made the 20th of May 1839 Between Wm. Steers and John Ballard Overseers of the Poor of Liberty township Shelby County Indiana of the one part and George W. Bless of the County and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Overseers of the Poor have and by these presents and by the consent and approbation of Betsey Wheeler Mother of Elender Wheeler a poor girl do by these presents bind the said Elender Wheeler age 6 years two months and Nineteen days daughter of Betsey Wheeler of said township who is unable to support her said daughter Elender do bind unto George W. Bless the said Elender Wheeler for the term of Eleven years nine months from the date of these present until the said Elender shall arrive at the age of Eighteen years which the said overseers are informed will happen on the 17th day of March 1852 if the said Elender shall so Long live and the said Overseers of the Poor do by these presents give unto the said George Bless all the authority power & right to and over the said Elender Wheeler and her services to the said George W. Bless during the term of time which a Master hath to and over a lawfully indented apprentice and the said George W. Bless on his part in consideration thereof doth Covenant and agree to and with the said Overseers of the poor and their successors in office for the time being and the said Elender Wheeler is to be instructed in the bisness of house keeping and is to be sent to school so as to learn to read and wright and further the said George W. Bless doth agree to and with the said Overseers that at the end of said Term he is to give the said Elender a Bed and bedding worth at least thirty dollars and further the said G. W. Bless is to give the said Elender good waring apperil and boarding & lodging such as common for said girl and further the said George W Bless is to instruct the Elender the principles of obedience morality during the term of time aforesaid and at the end of said Term the George Bless is to give the said Elender decent waring apperil and one Bible.
