We, Martin Updegraff and Sylvan B. Morris are bound unto the State of Indiana, in the sum of Three-hundred Dollars, for the payment of which we bind ourselves, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed and dated this the 19th day of March, 1884.
Whereas, The above bound Martin Updegraff has obtained from the Circuit Court of Shelby County, at the March Term, 1884, an order to sell the real estate belonging to Samuel E. Updegraff - a minor.
If the above bound Martin Updegraff will faithfully discharge his duties as Guardian of the persons and property of the above named minors, and render a faithful account of all moneys realized from the sale of said real estate, then said obligation is to be void, else to remain in full force./s/ Martin Updegraff

Said guardian shows to the Court that said minor is the owner, in fee, of the following real estate situate in Shelby county, in the State of Indiana, Court: Beginning at the north West corner of Franklin and Vine Streets in the City of Shelbyville, and running thence West along the North side of Franklin Street six rods to the East side of Timothy McLaughlin’s lot thence North 40 feet, thence East to Vine Street, thence South to the place of beginning. That said minor owns no personal property that has come to the knowledge or possession of this guardian. That said ward has no personal estate dependent upon the settlement of any estate or the execution of any trust. That said real estate is a vacant lot and yields no rent. That said minor is his own son and resides with him in Shelby County, Indiana and is aged about 20 years and is by trade a silver smith and is desirous of commencing business for himself. He shows to the court that the interest of his said ward would be promoted by the sale of said real estate in order that the proceeds of such sale may be applied to the purchase of the necessary tools and outfit to enable his said ward to carry on his said business. That said ward owns no real estate other than above described. He asks that the be authorized and directed to sell said real estate at private sale for cash./s/ Martin Updegraff, guardian.

Said guardian reports that pursuant to the order of said court he gave notice for five days that he would sell the real estate hereinafter described, at private sale, by posting a notice of such sale at the Courthouse door in the City of Shelbyville, in the County of Shelby, in the State of Indiana. And John C. DePrez, Samuel Hamilton, Squire L. Vanpelt, Leonard C. Powell and Sylvan B Morris, Trustees of the Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville, Indiana offered therefore the sum of $150.00 and no one on or before the 26th day of March, 1884 bidding more, and that being the full appraised value thereof said property described as follows: beginning at the North West corner of Franklin and Vine Streets in the City of Shelbyville, Shelby County, Indiana, and running thence West along the North side of Franklin Street six rods to the East side of Timothy McLaughlin’s lot, thence North forty feet, thence, thence East to Vine Street, thence South to the place of beginning. Said property was sold to said bidders for the price aforesaid. Said purchasers thereupon paid to the undersigned in cash said sum of $150.00 and the undersigned brings into court said sum of $150.00 and asks that said sale be confirmed and that he be authorized, informed, and directed to execute as said purchase, a deed for said property./s/ Martin Updegraff, guardian

Notice is hereby given that the undersigned, guardian of Samuel E. Updegraff, minor, will sell at private sale the following real estate belonging to his said ward situate in the County of Shelby, in the State of Indiana, to-wit:
Beginning at the North West corner of Franklin and Vine Streets, in the City of Shelbyville, and running thence West along the North side of Franklin Street six rods to the East side of Timothy McLaughlin’s lot, thence North forty feet thence East to Vine Street, thence South to the place of beginning.
Applications of purchasers will be received at the Dry Goods Store of Sylvan B. Morris in the City of Shelbyville, Indiana, until the 26th day of March, 1884.
