Last Will and Testament
of
Cornelia Coates

24 March 1916
I, Cornelia Coates of Shelbyville, Indiana, being of Sount mind and disposing memery do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made.
Item One. I direct that my executer hereinafter named shall as soon after my death as the same can be done with out injury to my estate pay all my just debts, funeral expenses, doctor bills and expense of my last sickness.
Item Two. I direct that all the real estate that I may own at the time of my death shall be sold by my executer for cash, as soon as the same can be sold without injury to the same.
Item Three. After the paying of all my just debts, funeral expenses, doctor bills, and expenses of my last sickness as provided in item one, and the paying of the expenses necessary in settling of my estate, I direct that the residue of my estate shall be divided as follows.
Item Four. I direct that my executer shall purchase a marker and have the same placed at the head of my grave, and that he shall purchase markers for the graves of each of my children, Walter H., Maude M., Nellie L., Myrtle, and Olive G. Coates, and I hereby bequeath $200.00 of my estate for that purpose, and direct that the same shall be used in purchasing said markers, by by executer.
Item Five. I direct that my executer shall pay to Mrs Eliza Chafee the sum of ten ($10.00) dollars per week for her care and support of me, said amount to be paid from the third day of January 1916, and to continue so long as I shall stay in her home.
Item Six. It is my will that my sister Mrs. Catherine Stover and Mrs Eliza Chafee shall each be entitled to the one half of my household goods, they each to select what they want, and the balance to be sold, and the money so received from said sale to divided between said parties.
Item Seven. After carrying out all the foregoing provisions of my will, I direct that the residue of my estate shall be divided between my sister Cathareine Stover and my brother George Deitzer share and share alike.
Item Eight. I hereby nominate and appoint A. E. Lisher executer of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd day of February, 1916.

Signed, sealed and acknowledged by Cornelia Coates as her last will and testament in our presence and signed by us at her request as attesting witnesses in her presence and in the presence of each other, this 3" day of February 1916.

Be it remembered, that on the 25 day of Mch, A.D., 1916 the 11 judicial day of the Mch Term of the Shelby Circuit Court in said year, come into open Court A. E. Lisher and produces in Court an instrument in writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Cornelia Coates, deceased, and now moves the admittance thereof to probate and record, and in proof of said Will introduces himself one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, who being duly sworn by the Clerk of said Court, on oath, declare and testify as follows, that is to say: That on the Feby 3, 1916 he saw the said Cornelia Coates sign her name to said instrument in writing as and for her last Will and Testament; and that this deponent, at the same time, heard the said Cornelia Coates declare the said instrument in writing to be her last will

AND THAT THE SAID INSTRUMENT IN WRITING WAS, AT THE SAME TIME, at the request of the said Cornelia Coates and with her consent attested and subscribed by the said A. E. Lisher and Elvira E. Wilson in the presence of said testator, and in the presence of each other, as subscribing witnesses thereto, and that the said Cornelia Coates was, at the time of the signing and subscribing of said instrument in writing, as aforesaid, of full age (that is, more than twenty-one years of age) and of sound and disposing mind and memery, and not under any coercion or restraint, as the said deponent verily believes, and further deponent says not.

Whereupon it is ordered, adjudged and decreed by the Court that said instrument in writing purporting to be the last Will of Cornelia Coates deceased, is the last Will and Testament of Cornelia Coates deceased, and is hereby admitted to probate and record in this Court.

I, Cecil B. Collins Clerk of the Circuit Court of Shelby County, Indiana, do hereby certify that the within annexed Will and Testament of Cornelia Coates has been duly admitted to probate, and duly proved by the testimony of A. E. Lisher one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, that a complete record of said Will, and of the testimony of said A. E. Lisher in proof thereof, has been by me duly made and recorded in Book 7 of Pages 105 & 106 of the record of Wills of said County.
IN ATTESTATION WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name, and affixed the seal of said Court, at Shelbyville, Indiana, this 24 day of Mch 1916.
