James B. Perry
An unidentified newspaper article:

James B. Perry was born Sept. 8, 1847.
He embraced religion at a camp-meeting on North camp-ground, Edgar Co, IL, Sept 2, 1867, and united with the M. E. Church the same day, under the labors of Rev. ? Wallace.  He remained a faithful and ?able member until his death.  At his country's call he and his brother volunteered and went out with the 9th Kansas to assist in putting down this terrible rebellion.  While leading a portion of Capt. Colman's command on the enemy's works, at Whitten's Mills, forty miles south of Little Rock, Ark. Oct. 9 [1864], he received a shot in the head, and was instantly killed, falling like a ? ?, his face toward the enemy.  We deeply sympathize with this parents, brother and sister, who deeply mourn their loss.  He was a dutiful man, an affectionate brother, a faithful friend, a patriotic soldier, and a Christian.  While we have just cause to weep tears of sorrow, his life and death furnish no cause for bitter tears of shame.  He has fought his ? battle, and his work is done.  May the smiles of Heaven comfort his afflicted friends.
M. Res?
