Gwynneville School
There were two schools in Gwynneville, one on the highway, which was torn
down a few years ago. It was a two room school and my Grandmother taught in
the late teens and early twenties. I don't know how long that school was
used, it went to the 4th grade she told me.
There was also a larger school on the south side of town. I found another
Grandmother and her sister's report cards from Gwynneville High School for
10th and 11th grades. I doubt that Gwynneville was ever a sanctioned high
school and my mother says she doesn't think it ever went to the 12th year.
A cousin who lives in Gwynneville said she thought if there were any records
left they might be at Morristown. However, another cousin who worked at
Morristown HS for years said there definitely were no records there from
Gwynneville.
And everybody says "your Dad would know." Well unfortunately it's too late
to ask now, but unbeknownst to them, he didn't know any more than they did.
He went to Gwynneville until the 8th grade, then they were all sent to
Morristown. That was in 1932. Someone mentioned that as early as 1925,
people from Gwynneville graduated from MHS.
