A  MANIAC'S  RAGE.

Robert Benjowski Attempts to Shoot Rev.
G. L. Curtiss.
----------
Considerable excitement was created in this city Monday by the intelligence that  Robert Benjowski  had gone to the residence of  Rev. George L. Curtiss  and while laboring under a fit of insanity attempted to shoot the preacher.  Mr. Curtiss seized hold of the pistol and prevented the accomplishment of the maniac's design.  Afterwards he was placed under arrest and pronounced insane by a committee de lunatico inquirendo.  He will be taken to the Insane Asylum, as he is evidently a very unsafe man to be allowed to go unrestrained in the community.  It will be remembered that Benjowski killed a man several years ago, and was afterwards acquitted of the charge of murder on the plea of insanity.  He has always been regarded as a dangerous man, and his associates lived in constant dread of some sudden outbreak and act of violence.  Mr. Curtiss says that he came to his home on Monday to return a religious book he had borrowed of him.  His actions showed that he was not in his right mind, before he attempted the act for which he was arrested and deprived of liberty.
