MYSTERY  SEEN  IN  CASE
OF  BOY  WITH
BULLET  IN  HEAD
----------
Shelbyville, Ind., June 23
Authorities today were investigating two versions of the shooting of  Thomas Bloom, 16, who was in the City hospital, a bullet lodged in the back of his head.  Members of his family say young Bloom shot himself accidentally while working with a rifle.  The youth himself says he did not have a rifle and that he was shot when he stepped from the front door of his home.  Police have received reports that the shooting resulted from a quarrel between Thomas and his brother, Eugene, 12 years old.  Mrs. Nathan Sollie, mother of the two boys, denied this version this afternoon, but made no comment on the statement of the victim that he neither had a rifle nor was working with one.  The boy's condition was serious.  No effort has been made to remove the bullet and he was allowed to talk only a few minutes to reply to questions from the police.
