Esther Kawfman Ten Years
Old Yesterday -- Twenty-

Esther, the charming little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Kawfman, of west Taylor street, was tendered a very pleasant surprise yesterday afternoon by twenty-four of her little friends, who had gathered at her home to help her celebrate the tenth anniversary of her birth. The hours were from two to six and if there was one minute during that period that all the little ladies were not enjoying themselves to the utmost, it failed to be seen.
Games and contests on the lawn provided diversion for the guests until Mr. Rain drove them into the house, where the merriment pro- [the article continues].

The acts of a faithful house dog saved Samuel
Kawfman, fruit dealer, and his wife and children from possible death
and also enabled the fire department to reach the home in time to control a fire
after two rooms had been burned away. The dog jumped into Kawfman's bed
and aroused him.
