          "Biography of the S. E. 5,"  the first of a series of articles on  "War Time Aviation,"  written by  George Hurst, of this city, appeared in the July issue of the Popular Aviation magazine.
          This article deals with the introduction of the use of combat flying and its development from the beginning of the war in 1914 to its conclusion in 1918.  The building of the S. E. 5 marked the rise of the allies to supremacy in the air.
          In a letter from officials of the popular Aviation magazine, Mr. Hurst was asked to submit more of his work.

CELEBRATED  GOLDEN
WEDDING  HERE  SUNDAY

Children Gave Big Dinner
For Mr. and Mrs. Landy
Hurst.

          Mr. and Mrs. Landy Hurst  celebrated their golden wedding Sunday, and in their honor their children gave them a fine dinner at their home, 516 east Broadway.  All the children and grandchildren were present.  There were also several friends and the brothers and sisters of Mrs. Hurst.  Mr. Hurst has two brothers, but their age and the condition of their health prevented them from attending the dinner.
          There are no more highly respected people in the county than Mr. and Mrs. Hurst and their many friends will be glad to extend congratulations.  They have been residents of this county for twenty-five yeras.  Mr. Hurst is seventy-eight years old.  He was born near Homer, Rush county, Indiana.  Mrs. Hurst's maiden name was  Evaline Edwards  and she was born in Greensboro, N.C.  She is seventy-one years old.  The marriage of the couple was solemnized in Manilla, Ind., the ceremony being performed by the  Rev. James Smith,  a Baptist minister.
          For the celebration Sunday the home of the aged couple had been attractively decorated by the hands of their loving children and grandchildren and care had been taken to provide for them a number of very nice presents.
          The children and their families are:  Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith  and son,  Carey,  of this city;  Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hurst  and daughters,  Gladys  and  Emma,  of Indianapolis, and  Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hurst  and children,  Marie,  Ethel,  Leo,  Earl,  James  and  George,  of this city.
          Mrs. Hurst's borthers and sisters present were:  J. H. Edwards,  Curtisville, Ind.;  William Edwards,  Arlington, Ind.;  Mrs. Jane Gardner,  Indianapolis;  Mrs. Mary Beckner  and daughter,  Nelle,  Noblesville;  Mr. and Mrs. George Ewing,  of Rushville.
          Mr. and Mrs. James Smart,  of Indianapolis, weer guests,  Mrs. Smart and Mrs. Gardner, the sister, being the only ones at the celebration Sunday who attended the wedding fifty years ago.
          Other guests were  Mr. and Mrs. Ithamar Spurlin  and  Mr. and Mrs. William Neu,  of this city;  Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Edwards,  of Curtisville;  Mr. and Mrs. Orville Stewart  and children,  Gerald  and  Beatrice,  of Rushville;  Mr. and Mrs. Walter Newsom,  of Carthage, and  Mr. and Mrs. Ezekiel Jackson,  near Fenns.
          A group photograph and a family photograph were made as souvenirs of the celebration.  The Democrat takes great pleasure in joining in best wishes for the esteemed couple.
