Prominent Aged Resident Of This County
Died At Eight O'Clock This Morning

For Many Years A Member Of The First M. E. Church

Mrs. Elizabeth Keith, aged eighty-three years, one of the prominent aged residents of this county, died at eight o'clock this morning at the home of her son,Will Keith, of Boggstown. Death resulted from old age and followed an illness of only three weeks.
Mrs. Keith was born in Ohio and moved to this county with her parents when she was three years of age. Her maiden name was Crosby. The Crosby family settled on a farm near Boggstown. Mrs. Keith has spent practically her entire life in this city and county. Her husband died twenty-five years ago. For the past few years Mrs. Keith has been making her home with her different sons. She has been a member of the First M.E. Church in this city for twenty years.
Mrs. Keith is survived by four sons, Will and James, of Boggstown; Edward, of Columbus, Ohio, and Otto, of this city; one daughter, Mrs. James Bradley, of Indianapolis; one sister, Mrs. Samuel McGregor; one brother, Frank Crosby, of Catlin, Illinois.

Jared Keith died at his home in Fairland Sunday morning at 11 o'clock of senility. Mr. Keith was seventy-four years, six months and seven days old at the time of his death. He had been confined to his bed for several weeks and towards the end was helpless, being unable to change his position in bed. Mr. Keith was one of the few remaining veterans of the Civil war. In 1861 he attempted to enlist in the U. S. army but was not accepted on account of his health at the time. He enlisted in 1864, however, in Company G., Thirty-eighth Indiana infantry, which at that time was a part of the Army of the Cumberland, and served until the close of the war. Mr. Keith is survived by a foster-daughter, Mrs. Lillian Crosby, and by nine nephews and thirteen nieces. His wife died in July, 1911. Funeral services will be conducted at the late home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the Fairland cemetery in charge of Ralph J. Edwards.

The death of Mrs. Jared [Mary M.] Keith occurred this morning at 1 o'clock at her home in Fairland. Mrs. Keith had been ill a long time, the cause of death being dropsy and heart trouble. She leaves besides her husband a foster daughter, Mrs. Thomas Crosby, of East Locust Street, this city; one sister, Mrs. James R. Devore, of Johnson County. The funeral will be held at the late home in Fairland at 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Hargitt officiating. Interment in the Fairland cemetery, arrangements in charge of Frank Timney and Ralph J. Edwards.

DEATH OF JOSEPH M. KEITH

Had Been Ill With Complications
of Diseases for Several Months

Joseph M. Keith, who has been ill for several months, died at his home in Walkerville this morning at 8:20 o'clock, the result of a complication of diseases. Although Mr. Keith had been ill for some time, he was not confined to his bed until last Saturday morning. Deceased, had he lived until October 27th, would have been fifty-four years of age. He has been superintendent of Forest Hill Cemetery for fifteen years.
Deceased leaves a widow, Ida Keith; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Badgley; a son, Jesse; mother, Elizabeth Keith, of Indianapolis, and four brothers: James, William, Edward, of Columbus, Otto, and one sister, Mrs. James Bradley, of Indianapolis.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge and Carnation Protected Home Circle and the former will have charge of the funeral services, which will be held at the late home Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. He was a member of the Walkerville M. E. Church and the Rev. Mr. Abbott will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Hill cemetery in charge of Ralph J. Edwards.

Mr. James Keith died at 5 p.m. October 20, 1908, at the age of sixty-two years. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Rose Shaffer, of Muncie, a son, Charles Keith, of Indianapolis, two sisters, Mrs. Farley, of Fairland, and Mrs. Preston, of New Palestine. The funeral will be held at the Main Street church, Walkerville, at 2 p.m. Thursday, the Rev. G. M. Smith, officiating. Interment in Forest Hill.

Well-Known Man Passed Away
Early Sunday Morning

After an illness of several weeks, Isaac M. Keith died Sunday morning at 8:15 o'clock. Death resulted from an attack of dropsy with which he has suffered for some time. Within the past week he grew much weaker and death was not unexpected.
Mr. Keith was a well-known figure about the city and will long be remembered by the familiar name of Squire Keith. He came to this city twenty years ago from the northern part of the state, where he was born April 7, 1844. For a number of years he worked at his trade, that of a plumber. Four years ago last fall he was elected justice of the peace in Addison township. He served the term and was candidate for re-election, but was defeated. Since that time he has been employed as night watchman at the Schmoe factory, during the time his health would permit. Several weeks ago he gave up his work and has been confined to his room ever since.
He was a veteran of the Civil War and was a member of the Dumont Post No. 18, G.A.R, also a member of Shelby Lodge No. 39, I.O.O.F. Deceased was a member of the West Street M.E. Church and has been on the church board for a number of years.
The surviving relatives are the widow, Mrs. Rose Keith; one son, Harry, of this city; two brothers, John Keith, of Dodge City, Kansas; and Albert Keith, of Goshen, Indiana; three sisters, Mrs. A. L. Stratton, of Warsaw; Mrs. Mary Sipes, of Miles City, Montana, and Miss Amanda Keith, of Elkhart.
The funeral services will be held from the West Street M. E. Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. G. Jensen officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery under the auspices of Shelby Lodge, I.O.O.F. Edwards & Hageman are in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Laura J., daughter of Mrs. Mary Keith, died at their residence, No. 210 East Pennsylvania street, at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 1895, aged fourteen years. The remains were buried Sunday, November 17, 1895. Services at the house at three o'clock p.m., Rev. A. R. Stark officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. D. B. Wilson & Son, funeral directors.

Jonathan H. Keith, father-in-law of James Bradley, died yesterday at his home in Sugar Creek township, aged 77 years. The deceased, an honored pioneer of the county, was born in Lewis county, West Virginia [then VA], in 1811. He was the youngest of thirteen children, six sons and seven daughters. His boyhood and early youth were spent working upon his father's farm in his native county. In the spring of 1828 he accompanied his parents to Miami county, Ohio, but in the following fall the family came to Shelby county and located in the woods of Marion township. In the spring of 1829, they removed to a farm which the father had purchased in Brandywine township near the present site of Fairland. In 1832 they removed to Sugar Creek township and located upon a tract of land in Section 32, upon which the deceased resided to the day of his death. His first marriage occurred April 10, 1836, when Keziah Hutchison became his wife. She died March 31, 1837, and in [April 21] 1848 he was married to Elizabeth Crosby, and unto them were born ten children. He was a member of the M. E. church and a well known Mason. He held the office of justice of the peace in his township for five years. He served as Second Lieutenant in Company H. Third Indiana Regiment, of the Mexican War, from June, 1846 to July, 1847.
The funeral services will be held on Sunday at 10:30 the Rev. Conner officiating. The following gentleman who served with him in the Mexican War will act as pall bearers: Captain Henry Ensley, William Elliott, J. L. Capp, Thomas McClain, John Blessing and J. L. Martz. The burial will be under the direction of Cummins & Edwards funeral directors.
