DEMON OF BAD LUCK
AFTER BIG BUICK CAR
----------
John McCain's Automobile
Damaged $300 By Fire
Sunday Night.
----------
(From Monday's Daily.)
A very demon of bad luck seems to be following John F. McCain's new seven-passenger Buick car. Once last summer it came near going to the junk pile, being damaged $250 in an accident, and again last night it all but escaped destruction by fire, being damaged $300 or more.
Mr. McCain and his family had driven to Bengal from their home four miles northeast of there to attend the services at the Christian church. He left the car standing at the side of the church and the blaze was said by the men who discovered it to have been started because the carburetor had been covered up. Ezra Facemire, who was in church at the time, called attention to the blaze, and the excitement that followed broke up the meeting.
It took hard fighting to conquer the blaze because of the zero weather and because water had to be carried from a distance and for a time it looked like the care was doomed. The front part of the car was charred, but luckily, the gasoline tank was not fired.

Mr. George W. McCain arrived in this city this morning from Indianapolis, and in company with Mr. L. C. Powell, sought County Clerk Glessner of whom he secured a license to marry Mrs. E. L. Stroup, of Waldron, the wedding being dated for
Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock, in Waldron. Mr. McCain is sixty-three years of age and his bride is fifty-seven. About
thirty years ago Mr. McCain left Shelby county going to Indianapolis where for eighteen years he was on the police force. At this time he is deputy marshal of Woodruff Place and a member of the Merchants police force, he holding the respect of hundreds of the people
of that city. There is a little romance connected to this marriage. In his early days Mr. McCain was a school teacher in and near Waldron, Mr. L. C. Powell being one of his pupils. Another of his pupils was the woman he is now going to marry, she having lost her husband by death and Mr. McCain his wife. They first knew each other more than forty years ago, the wish of their friends being that they may be as happy on earth as the angels in Heaven.
