WOOD STRUCK HIM
----------
Edward Newton, one of the
bookkeepers at the First National bank was in his woodshed splitting wood
yesterday evening, when he was struck with a stick of wood on the right side of
the eye, making quite a gash. Dr. T. G. Green was
called and he had to take three stitches in the wound to close it.

FAMILY REUNION
----------
A family reunion was held at the residence of William Newton, Sr., three miles west of Waldron, on Wednesday, November 6, in honor of Mr. Newton, who, on that day, celebrated his 80th birthday. He is the last living member of a family of eight children. He was born in Kingston, now Philadelphia. Mr. Newton has lived in Shelby county thirty-nine years, and on the farm he now owns twenty-six years. He still supervises his farm and quite frequently attends to business in Shelbyville. Mr. & Mrs. Newton have reared a family of four children - Mrs. Emeline Stroup, Mrs. Emma Duty, Mrs. Margaret Seely and Mrs. Melly Coyle. These were all present with their children and together with a number of more distant relatives the day was delightfully spent. Among those from a distance were Mr. & Mrs. John Newton, Indianapolis; William Newton, Tipton county, Indiana.
The usual good things that a well regulated country home abounds in, were brought out at the noon hour, and they all sat down around the family board with father and mother in their accustomed places and in this enjoyment imagined they were young again. In their pleasure the day passed too quickly for as the time for departure drew nigh, they wished they might be able to say, as did Joshua of old, "Sun stand thou still," that they might enjoy a few more hours of their childhood. But all things that have a beginning have an end and as they departed they wished they might be able to meet again and again on occasions of this kind, with father and mother as central figures. May Mr. Newton's last years be as pleasant as his former ones have been profitable.
