Charging that her
husband refused and failed to provide for her, and that he had deserted
her, Mrs. Cannie Portteus, of Pleasant View, Moral township, has
filed a complaint for a divorce against Earl R. Portteus in
the Shelby Circuit Court. She asks for her former name of Cannie
Murnan. Herbert C. Jones represents Mrs. Portteus.
The couple was married
November 25, 1914 and separated August 5, 1925. Mrs. Portteus says that
her husband deserted and abandoned her and that she does not now know his
whereabouts. The wife alleges that her husband is lazy, that he failed to
provide for her, and did not pay his bills. She also asserts that he
refused to keep positions which he held, and that in two years he bought her
only one dress. Mrs. Portteus charges that she took in washings to support
herself, and that she was forced to cut and carry in wood for their fires.
The wife states that her husband told her that he did not care for her, and
charges that he was intimate with other women.
