BALLARD - ROTH
----------
Last evening at 7:30 at the home of the
bride's mother on west Hendricks street, the marriage of Miss Ethel
Roth and Alonzo Ballard was solemnized.
The house was beautifully
decorated in a manner appropriate to the event that was being so happily
celebrated. In the presence of the relatives and a very few intimate
friends, the Rev. G. W. Winfrey administered the wedding vows.
The bride was charming in
a gown of white silk, while the groom was attired in the usual black.
After the ceremony, the guests showered congratulations upon the popular
pair. It was given out that Mr. and Mrs. Ballard would leave the city on
the nine o'clock car, and a few people were deceived by the report.
However, every one had
not been deluded, and when the ride and groom drove to the car line and thence
around town and back to their new home on west Hendricks street, thinking that
they had cleverly thrown every one off the track, they found that a crowd of
five or six "cholly Chermans" were waiting for them.
Fireworks were let off by
the men disguised as ghosts with long winding sheets and pointed white dunce
caps. The consiprators were invited into the dinging room by Mr. Ballard
and were allowed to fill the aching void.
Mr. and Mrs. Ballard have
many friends in this city and all unite with the Democrat in wishing them long
lives of happiness.
