OTHER SOCIAL EVENTS
----------
Eighty friends of and relatives of Mrs. Margaret Scheffler, one of this county's highly esteemed elderly women, gathered at the home of her son, Fred Scheffler, four miles north of the city, yesterday, and tendered her a very pleasant surprise, the occasion being her sixty-fifth birthday anniversary. The plans worked perfectly and to say Mrs. Scheffler was surprised would be putting it only mildly.
Each family brought baskets filled to the handles with good things to eat and at the noon hour they were all spread on a large table to be disposed of by the four-score of guests. The afternoon was spent in social conversation at which all enjoyed themselves immensely. The guests left just at dusk wishing Mrs. Scheffler many happy returns of the day. Those present to enjoy the anniversary event were John Scheffler and family, Frank Berg and family, Mrs. August Scheffler and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scheffler, Will Mohr and family, Fred Senger and family, Mrs. Christina Posz and family, George Mohr, Jr., and family, John Nail and family, Mr. and Mrs. Neu, Mr. and Mrs. Nat Mohr, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edwards, Mrs. Maggie Mohr and children, George Mohr, Sr., and family, Misses Margaret Schneider and Minnie DePrez, August Scheffler, George Vanlue, Carl Gartner and family, Erwin Schermer and family.

John Scheffler, the genial and popular trustee of Shelby township, will have extra help in the management of his office in the future. The new assistant is a bounding nine-pound boy that arrived at his home Saturday night by way of the stork route presided over by Dr. J. W. Parrish. Mother and babe are doing well and the father is delighted beyond measure.

OVERTURNED INTO DITCH WHILE
ON WAY TO CITY
----------
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scheffler, of Near Smithland,
Had Rough Experience Today.
----------
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scheffler, of near Smithland, narrowly escaped injury in an accident this afternoon while on their way to this city to do some trading. They were making the trip in a buggy and the vehicle was overturned a short distance this side of Smithland when their horse took fright at an old gate that had been placed at the side of the road.
The horse went into the ditch quick as a flash and the spill came to the occupants of the buggy almost without warning. Their buggy was somewhat badly damaged but they escaped with only a few bruises. A big basket of eggs they were bringing to the city was lost in the smash, as only three of the eggs remained whole following the accident. The harness was also damaged, but they were able to continue their trip to the city after doing some repair work on the vehicle and harness.
