          An unusual service was held at the Flora Christian Church Sunday afternoon when  Paul Robert Shields  was ordained to the Christian ministry.  On the platform were the local pastor, the  Rev. George Whipple,  DeVere Hoffman, chairman of the church board, and  Lee Elkenberry,  chairman of the Board of Elders and the Ordination Council.  Mr. Hoffman made a statement of purpose and the  Rev. Arnold Guy,  pastor of the Delphi Christian Church read from the Scriptures.  The  Rev. Donald Weston, of the Burlington Christian Church offered the pastoral prayer.  Mr. Whipple  gave the "Meaning of Ordination",  Mr. Elkenberry presented the candidate,  Paul Shields, and gave the credentials for his ordination.  Mr. Whitacre, an elder in the Gosport Christian Church, spoke, Mr. Hoffman was in charge of the "Examination of the Candidate," and the confirmation was made by the congregation, led by the pastor. Chaplain Wallace White  offered the ordination prayer while elders and the pastors laid hands on the candidate.  The pastor of the local church gave the charge to the newly ordained minister.  The benediction was pronounced by the new minister.  Following ordination services,  Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shields,  assisted by members of their family, entertained members of the Gosport, Ind., church to which their son, Paul, ministers, and relatives and friends.  Refreshments were served at their home on South Center St.  The out of town relatives were noon dinner guests of  Mr. and Mrs. Shields.  Relatives were there from Indianapolis, Shelbyville, Summitville and Monticello.  The Rev. and Mrs. Paul Shields and son, William Franklin, are now at home in the parsonage at Gosport where Paul is serving full time.  Mrs. Shields  is the former  Sue Allen,  daughter of  George Allen  of Flora.

          Christmas guests of  Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shields  were  Mr. and Mrs. Claude Webber  of Los Angeles, Calif.,  Mrs. Blanche Shields  and  Miss Lois Ann Talkington  of Shelbyville,  Mrs. Ann Curry  of Summitville and  Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shields  and son, William Franklin of Kimberlin Heights, Tenn.

FLORA---- A daughter, Jessica Lee, 8 pounds, 1 ounce was born to  Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shields  Monday, Nov. 16, at Memorial Hospital, Logansport.
          Joe Shields  went to Shelbyville Tuesday and his grandmother,  Mrs. Blanche Shields  returned to Flora with him.

          Theodore Wilkes has been appointed guardian of the person and property of  John Shields, commonly known as "Deaf Henry."   An effort will be made to send the old man to the Soldiers' Home at Dayton, Ohio.
