Cary Stites Comes to the Front as
a Candidate
for County Assessor -- Has Good
Republican
Record Behind Him
----------
(From Tuesday's Daily.)
Cary A.
Stites has announced his candidacy for the office of county
assessor. The announcement has come at the solicitation of politicians and
friends of Mr. Stites who argue that his allegence to render him a first class
candidate for the Republican party as well as a deserving and capable public
servant. He lives in Noble township.
Mr. Stites is
an old resident of Shelby county, having spent 15 of the best years of his life
as a teacher in our own Decatur county schools. For the last seven years
he has been a farmer in Noble township. He is a product of a long and
loyal line of Republican stock. His father and his grandfather before him
were Republicans of the stern sort. Mrs. Stites, who was formerly Miss
Susie Durbin, was the daughter of the late Oliver P. Durbin,
for five years a soldier in the war of the Rebellion and a staunch
Republican. One daughter has been borning [born in ?-pmf] to the union.
The new
candidate for county assessor came to Shelby county 25 years ago from Decatur
county. He has at every turn allied himself with the interests of the
party and has served in many capacities on various committees and in more than
one political battle. Mr. Stites and his family are members of the Geneva
M. E. church and popular residents of Noble township.
In announcing
his candidacy for the nomination at the County convention March 21, Mr. Stites
says he will work for his own election if nominated, and for the success of the
entire Republican ticket -- a think he asserts is the duty of every candidate
regardless of his popularity.
