William Tyner,  conductor of the fast freight due here about 9 o'clock, met with an almost fatal accident on Moday[sic] night.  In descending the ladder on one of the box cars his foot slipped and he fell heavily to the ground.  Tyner held a lantern in one hand, and was precipitated upon it.  The handle penetrated his neck to the depth of an inch or more, cutting the carotid artery from which the blood flowed in a stream.  Drs. Jenkins and Drake attended him.
