LOCAL NEWS
----------
We have received,
through Senator Voorhees, a complete list of pensioners who
receive pay upon the roll. Upon looking over the Shelby county list we
find that there are 218 who receive during the year $21,909, over $1,800 per
month. The sums paid vary from $72 per month down to $2. Some are
unquestionably entitled to all they get and others who step up to the Captain's
office and draw their pay every quarter are to all appearances the most robust
and able-bodied men in the county.
