Mrs. Sarah E. West Asks For Alimony
of $500 and $100 Attorney’s
Fees
----------
A complaint for a divorce, restraining order, the restoration of her former
name, alimony of $500, and attorney’s fees of $100 has been filed in the
Shelby Circuit Court by Mrs. Sarah E. West against Thomas West.
Williams & Pell are attorneys for Mrs. West. A restraining order, which
prevents the husband from disposing of any of his personal property, pending a
hearing, was issued by Judge Harry C. Morrison.
The couple was married October 7, 1922, and separated January 27, 1924. Mrs.
West alleges that her husband was quarrelsome, and says that he threatened to
kill her. On the day of their separation she says her husband became very angry,
broke her stove and threatened her life. She asserts that she was compelled to
flee from her home and to spend the night at the home of her son. The wife
charges that her husband, in his anger would tear down the draperies and break
her cut glass. She states that Mr. West refused to provide her with clothing,
and says that she kept boarders to support herself and children.
The plaintiff alleges that her husband used $600 of her money and refused to
pay it back and she charges that he sold tobacco which she raised and kept the
money. She asks for her former name of Sarah E. Coulston.

PLENTY OF ACTION TO
SHORT MARRIED LIFE
----------
Mrs. Sarah E. West lived a troubled existence during a year and a half
of married life, judging from the complaint which she has filed in the Shelby
circuit court for a divorce from Thomas West. She asks the return of her
former name of Sarah E. Coulson, judgment of $500 in alimony, $100 for
the fee of her attorneys and the court has issued an order on her petition,
restraining the defendant from disposing of any of his personal property.
The couple was married October 7, 1922, and separated last Sunday, the
complaint states. Mrs. West charges her husband was quarrelsome, cursed her and
threatened to kill her. On the day of the separation she says he became angry
and broke her stove, then rushed toward her with a threat to kill. She had to
leave home and go to her son, she claims.
During the fits of anger, Mr. West would tear down curtains, draperies and
break up the glassware, she alleges. Mrs. West says she was forced to have
boarders at the house to support herself and children. She also claims her
husband used $600 of her money and refuses to return it. She raised tobacco, she
says, and he sold the crop and kept the money.
