Rex W. Alvis, 70, Shelbyville, died Tuesday.
Born on July 26, 1927, in Remington, s/o Ora Earl and Iva (Norwood) Alvis. March 14, 1948, married Edra Jean (Leist) Alvis, who survives.
Employed at Overhead Doors, Columbus. Owned and operated Alvis Overhead Doors in Shelbyville until he retired.
Veteran of the U. S. Navy and a graduate of Columbus High School.
Member of First United Methodist Church, Shelbyville, active in the Men's Brotherhood and the Joy Class. Also active with Habitat For Humanity.
Other survivors include a son, the Rev. Greg Alvis, Mount Vernon, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Rolly (Gina) Bishop, Shelbyville; four brothers, Warren "Ted'' Alvis, Shelbyville, Wayne Alvis and Ralph Alvis, both of Cartersville, Ga.; and Max Alvis, Columbus, a sister, Mrs. Joe (Madylon) Turley, Columbus and four grandchildren. Preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Services First United Methodist Church, Shelbyville, with the Rev. D. Allan Rumble officiating.
Burial Forest Hill Cemetery.
