Former Local Man Succumbs at Franklin

Born in Shelby County, he was the son of Frank and Susan (Harrell) Ashley. On August 16, 1909 he was united in marriage with Cecil McCarty. He is survived by the widow and seven children, Oscar of Paragon; Mrs. Fern Cole and Mrs. Reba Peck of Shelbyville; Mrs. Delores Marshall of Ninevah; Mrs. Patty Taylor, Mrs. JoAnne Patterson and Mrs. Irene Coffman of Franklin. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; one brother, Everett of Hartsville; one sister, Mrs. Mabel McKee, and one half-sister, Mrs. Walter Caplinger of Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Vandivier Funeral Home in Franklin with Revs. Grover Myers of Edinburg and Robert Cavaness of Shelbyville officiating. Burial will be in the Miller cemetery near Smithland. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday.

The Shelbyville RepublicanMary S., wife of Frank M. Ashley, died at their residence in Washington township at 2:15 p.m., Thursday, August 25, of lung trouble, aged 40 years, 6 months and 27 days. She will be buried Saturday, August 27, in the Parrish cemetery. Services at Pleasant Grove church at 10 a.m., by the Rev. M. V. Faster. Deceased leaves husband, six children. Father James E. Harrell, five brothers, James E., Jno., Joseph, Frank, Levi Harrell, Mrs. John H. Butler, Mrs. Nancy Swinford and Mrs. Barbara Sawyers.

The Shelbyville RepublicanBenjamin Ashley, died at the home of his cousin, Mrs. Jacob Haehl, one half mile east of the city, at 5:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, of lung trouble, aged fifty six years and seven months. Mr. Ashley was unmarried. His brother, who lives in Covington, Ky., will arrive here this evening and arrange the time and place of funeral, which will be announced in tomorrow's paper. The remains are in charge of Edwards & Hageman.
