Jack W. Banker, 92, of Shelbyville

Jack W. Banker, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
Born May 30, 1928 in Shelbyville, he was the son of R. Ray Banker and Leah Jessie (Headlee) Banker. He married Lois E. (Miller) Banker on December 30, 1948, and she survives.
Other survivors include a son Scott W. Banker of Portland, Oregon, a daughter Karen E. Banker of Shelbyville; grandson Colin W. White of Shelbyville; nieces Phyllis Babcock of Indianapolis, Diane Boring (husband John) of Shelbyville, and nephew Jeffrey Miller (wife Susan) of Elkhart, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Glenn Miller, and sister-in-law Joan Miller.
Mr. Banker was a lifelong resident of this area,and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1946, and Indiana Business College in 1947. He was a self employed real estate broker/insurance agent, owning and operating Banker's Agency in Shelbyville for over 55 years. He was a 60+ year member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and church council, a member of Shelby Lodge #28 F&AM, York Rite Masonic, American Legion for over 50 years, and a former member of Shelbyville Elk's Lodge. He served on the Shelbyville City Council from 1976-1980, and was Addison Township Trustee for many years. He was a US Army veteran attaining the rank of corporal.
Jack loved pets, especially his cat Zoe, watching sports on TV, and enjoyed traveling in his earlier years.
Graveside services will be 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Pastor Colin Cress officiating. Public viewing will be at the cemetery from 12:30 pm until the time of the service. Military rites will be conducted by a local veterans organization.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church, or Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter, in care of the funeral home.

Leah Jessie Banker, 93, Shelbyville, died at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Born March 7, 1900, in Shelby County, d/o Cyrus and Alice (Kemple) Headlee. Married R. Ray Banker December 30, 1922; he died June 6, 1975.
Member of the First United Methodist Church and Naamah Chapter 73, Order of the Eastern Star, Shelbyville.
Burial Forest Hill Cemetery.
Survivors: son Jack W. Banker, Shelbyville; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Opal Hurst, Indianapolis; 5 sisters and 7 brothers preceded her in death.

MRS. BANKER DEAD.

Mrs.Elizabeth Banker, of Columbus, formerly a resident of Shelby county died
yesterday at Columbus. She was 86 years old, and has several relatives in
this city. Her death is believed to have resulted from old age. Drs.
A. J. Banker and W. T. Banker, prominent physicians of
Columbus, and Demetrius Banker of this city, are her
sons. She was grandmother to Ed. Banker, Ora Banker,
Earl Banker and Mrs. Thomas McClain, children of Demetrius
Banker of this city. She was great grandmother to Otto,
Stanley, and Ray Banker, sons of Ed. Banker.
The funeral services will take place tomorrow forenoon at 1 o'clock.
Several from here will attend.
