Vernon F. Bastin, 74, Shelbyville, IN, died at 1:20 a.m. at Major Hospital, Shelbyville, IN.  Born on March 18, 1919, in Shelby County, the son of  Samuel M. Bastin and Ella E. (Perry) Bastin.  Married  Lillian "Mickey" Freimarck, on Dec. 9, 1945 (surviving).  A lifelong Shelby County resident; serviceman, PSI Energy retiring in 1981.  U.S. Army Air Forces veteran, serving in World War II.  Member of First Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Eagles.  Survivors include his wife, Lillian "Mickey" Bastin; a son, Jerry W. Bastin, Batesville; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Martha) McCracken, Shelbyville; a brother, William R. Bastin, Shelbyville, IN; and a sister, Mrs. Stella Mae Howell, Manilla; and two grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cem. Shelbyville, IN.

Patsy M. Bastin, 65, 1102 S. West Street Shelbyville, died May 23, 1992 at Johnson Co. Hospital in Franklin.  Born July 20, 1926 in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of  Edward Bassett  and  Lettie Baker.  She married  Dale E. Bastin  on March 20, 1948.  He died Aug 28, 1990.  Assembler for TRW Cinch.  Resident of Shelbyville for most of her life.
Survivors include one son, Bob Bastin, Shelbyville; five daughters:  Mrs Don (Patricia) Trent,  Mrs. Gary (Kathy) Kelley,  Mrs. Dale (Doralee) Elliott, Germany,  Mrs. William (Cindy) Mays, Rushville, and  Mrs. Tim (Dalenda) Higdon, Shelbyville; one brother, Mr. Jack Bassett; five sisters, Mrs. Charlie (Mary) Henderson. Hope, Mrs. Wayne (Marilyn) Wilson, Shelbyville, Mrs. Jim (Betty) Taggart, Waldron, Lucy Saunders, Shelbyville, and  Mrs. Joe (Ruth) Landwerland. Shelbyville; and 11 grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.  Burial will be in Bennett cemetery.

Dale E. Bastin, 60, 1102 S. West Street died at 5:30 a.m., Tuesday, at his residence.  Born in Connersville on April 29, 1930, he was the son of James E. and Myrtle (Gabbert) Bastin. His wife, Patsy M. (Bassett) Bastin, whom he married on March 20, 1948, survives. Mr Bastin was a die sinker with TRW Cinch Connectors for 35 years, until his retirement in 1985.  Survivors include his mother, of Shelbyville; daughters, Mrs. Donald (Patricia) Trent, Shelbyville, Mrs.Gary (Kathy) Kelley, Shelbyville, Mrs.Waynedale (Doralee) Elliott, Germany, Mrs. William (Cindy) Mays, Rushville, and Dalenda Bastin, Shelbyville, and Bob Bastin, Shelbyville, and a sister Geraldine Dora, Connersville; and 11 grand children. Preceding him in death were two brothers and a sister.  Services will be at 11 a. m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Horner officiating.  Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bennett Cemetery.

Rites Set for Mrs. Bastin

          Services will be Friday at 2:00p.m. at Carmony Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IN, for Mrs.
Ella E. Bastin, 76, R.R. 6, Shelbyville, IN, who died Tuesday at Decatur County Hospital, Greensburg. She had been ill since January 12 and hospitalized since Friday.  Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Ronald Robinson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4:00 p.m. Thursday. A resident of the Blue Ridge community for 40 years, Mrs. Bastin was a member of the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.  She was born in Shelby County July 14, 1896, the daughter of Noah and Anna (Deal) Perry. On Aug. 1, 1914, she was married to Samuel Bastin, who died Dec., 27, 1965.  Surviving are two sons and a daughter, Vernon F. Bastin and William R. Bastin R.R. 1, and Mrs. Stella Howell, R.R. 6, Shelbyville; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a brother and two sisters, Vern Z. Perry, and Mrs. Roscoe (Leona) Fix, Knightstown, and Mrs. Hazel McKenney, Shelbyville. Three sons and six brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

Samuel Bastin Dies in Hospital. Rites Friday for Retired Farmer, 74.

          Samuel M. Bastin, 74, 312 W. Franklin St. ,died Tuesday, at 4:15p.m. at Major Hospital. He had been ill for the past three years. A retired farmer, Mr Bastin had resided in the Shelby County area for 55 years.  He was a member of the Bible Mission. Born in Lincoln County, KY, on June 13, 1891, he was the son of James and Laura (Young) Bastin. On Aug. 1, 1914, in Shelbyville, he married Ella Perry, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Vernon F. Bastin, and Mrs. Stella Howell of Shelbyville, and William R. Bastin R. R. 1; nine grandchildren; six great-grand children; and one brother and four sisters: Mrs. Conley (Cora) Stephens, Waldron, Mrs. Stanley (Rosa) Bradenburg and Mrs. Lewis (Maggie) Daniels, both of Cincinnati, Mrs. Manley (Pearl) McGuffey, Danville, KY, and McKenley Bastin of Indianapolis. Three children preceded him in death. Services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Murphy Mortuary, with the Rev. C.M. Hager officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 2:00 p.m. Thursday.

          James E. Bastin, 59, resident of this city for 16 years and a photographer, died at Major Hospital at 5:00 a.m. today.  He had been ill for the past year and in critical condition for two weeks. An autopsy was scheduled for this afternoon to determine the exact cause of death.
          Mr. Bastin, whose home was 912 E. Jackson St., was born in Stanford, KY, on January 13, 1902.  His parents were James and Laura Bastin.  He first was married to Myrtle Gabbert whose death occurred in 1930.  Five Children survive, James E. Bastin Jr., of R.R. 4; Dale E. Bastin, St. Paul; Carl Kenneth Bastin of Indianapolis, Mrs. Harold Miller, Glenwood, and Mrs. Paul Wildridge, Connersville, IN.  On June 18, 1931, he was married to Dora Griffith who survives.  Also surviving are 19 grand children, one great grandchild and the following brothers and sisters:  Samuel Bastin, Manilla;  McKinley Bastin, Indianapolis, Mrs. Rosa E. Brandenburg, Stanford, KY, Mrs. Maggie B. Daniels, Cincinnati, Mrs. Cora Stephens, Waldron, and Mrs. Ida Pearl McGuffey of Danville, KY.  Mr Bastin was a member of the Stanford Christian Church.  His funeral will be held at the Murphy Mortuary Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. James Thorpe in charge.  Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 2:30 p.m. Friday.

          Mrs. Myrtle Bastin, 26 year old wife of  James E. Bastin and former resident of Shelbyville, died at 11 o'clock Monday night at Connersville Hospital, following a brief illness due to complications of disease.  Mrs. Bastin and her husband have many friends in Shelbyville who are shocked by the announcement of her death.  Funeral Services will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the late home in Connersville and burial will be in the Connersville Cemetery.  Mr. & Mrs. Bastin were residents of Shelbyville until about 8 months ago, when they moved to Connersville, where Mr. Bastin accepted employment.  Besides the husband she leaves behind five small children, and a number of other relatives and friends.

          Carl K. Bastin, 56, 1026 N. Maple, Rushville, died unexpectedly at 6:25 a.m. Thursday in his home.  Funeral Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. af Murphy's mortuary in Shelbyville with Rev. Kenneth Bates in charge.  Friends may visit after 4 p.m. Friday and the burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. He was born in Connersville, Jan. 29, 1928 to James and Dora Griffith.*  He married Marie (Hurley) of Shelbyville, Dec. 10, 19 ? before moving to rushville two months ago, he was employed by Marsh Supermarket and was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Rushville.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Survivors other than his wife and mother are:  three sons, Randy, Scott, and Steve Bastin all of Canoga Park, Ca.;  five daughters, Debbie and Judy Bastin Canoga Park, Ca., and  Melody Rowe, Greenwood, and Terri and Myra Finch, of Rushville; a brother Dale Bastin, of Shelbyville, and a sister Geraldine Dora of Connersville.  A brother and a sister preceded him in death.

Born in Shelbyville, lived in Connersville and Shelbyville before moving to Madisonville.
Wife, Maria Johnson Bastin survives there.  
Relatives could not provide information about where he worked and when he was born.
Survivors:  wife;  daughter  Marcella Benjamin  of North Dakota; a sister, Geraldine Miller Dora, Connersville, two brothers, Carl K. Bastin, and  Dale Bastin, Shelbyville; a stepmother, Mrs. Dora Bastin, Shelbyville, and a grandson.

          Robert M. Bastin, 33, whose home was at 710 Eighth St., died at the Indianapolis Veterans Hospital at 12:45 this morning.  He has been ill since June 12 and his condition had been serious for three weeks.
          A resident of Shelby and Rush counties most of his life, Mr. Bastin had operated the Cities Service Station here for the past 18 month. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as an airman with the navy.
          He was born in Shelby County Dec. 23, 1923, the son of  Samuel M. and Ella E. Perry Bastin, who reside near Blue Ridge. On October 26, 1942, he was married to Wilma Jean McDonald, who survives with three daughters:  Sharon Jean, Charlotte Jane, and Lisa Dawn, all at home.  Also surviving are two brothers, and one sister:  Vernon F. and William R. Bastin, of  R.R. 1 and Mrs. Stella M. Howell of this city.  Mr. Bastin was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the local Eagles Lodge and Victory Post, American Legion.
          Funeral services will be held at the Carmony Funeral Home in this city, Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., with Paul Woodmansee, reader for the First Church of Christ, Scientist, officiating. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the American legion, will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.   Friends may call at the funeral Home after noon Tuesday.

          James E. Bastin, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bastin, died at their home at 11:45 o'clock this morining, from influenzal pneumonia, from which he has been suffering for the past two weeks. He was born April 6, 1917, being aged one year, six months, and twenty-five days. He had been critically ill for the past week and Mr. Bastin is just recovering from the same disease. Besides the parents, he leaves one brother, Ray, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Bastin and Mr. and Mrs. Noah Perry.  Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the late home.  Rev. Horance N. Spear, of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be made in forest Hill Cemetery in charge of Henderickson and Sleeth, undertakers.
