William L. “Bill” Callahan, 67, of Morristown, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. He was born October 1, 1946, in Shelbyville, the son of Harry L. and Ella (Tretler) Callahan. He married Marsha Mae Smith on May 16, 1998, and she survives.
Other survivors include his son, James Parker and wife, Cory, of Rushville; daughter, Jodie Mae Rogers and husband, Richard, of Rushville; sister, Karen K. Kristoffs and husband, John, of Caledonia, Minnesota; grandchildren, Addy Parker, Josephine Tungate, Cierra Mae Rogers and Daisy Mae Rogers; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill graduated from Morristown High School in 1964. He received a teaching degree from Ball State University. He was a member of the Morristown Christian Church. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1971. He began his working career as a teacher at Muncie Central High School in the mid 1970’s. He worked at Freudenberg NOK from 1978 to 2003, then he worked at Plastic Moldings from 2004, until retiring in 2012. Bill was a member of the Morristown Masonic Lodge No. 193 F&AM, where he was a Past Master, and Morristown American Legion.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown. Masonic rites will be conducted at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2014 at the funeral home, with Elder Mike Chastain officiating. Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown, with military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee.

Funeral rites were held January 8 at Neosho, Mo., for Esta Callahan, 78-year-old former Shelby county resident who died January 6 at Seneca, Mo., according to word received here by a sister-in-law, Mrs. H. O. Phares, of Addison township.
Mr. Callahan was born and reared in Shelby county, but left here more than 50 years ago. His wife, the former Clara Copple, of Shelby county, and their three children, preceded in death some years ago.

Mrs. H. O. Phares, of this city, has received word of the death of her
nephew, Clarence Callahan, at Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Callahan was the son
of Esta Callahan, of Neosho, Missouri, a former resident of Shelby
county.
Funeral services for the deceased man were held in Detroit.

MISS CALLAHAN DIES AT HOME
Long Illness Fatal to County Native

Miss Thelma Naoima
Callahan, age 43, succumbed at her home east of Gwynneville Thursday at 11
a.m. following an illness of several years. Death was due to
complications.
Miss Callahan was born in
Liberty township on March 15, 1902, the daughter of Julius and Bertha
Callahan. Surviving in addition to the parents are two sisters, Mrs.
Herbert Mullen, of Fairland, and Mrs. William Older, of Chicago, Ill;
three half-brothers, Cleatus Kuhn of Rush county; Chandos
Kuhn, at home, and Ted Kuhn, of Shelby county, and three nieces
and three nephews.
Miss Callahan was a
member of the Blue Ridge Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be
held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. J. W.
Dickmann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in charge of
L. V. Hauck.

A. V. CALLAHAN

Albert V. Callahan, age sixty-six, well known Addison township farmer died at
7 a.m. Monday at the Major hospital. Death was caused by heart
complications. He had been ill htree weeks and was taken to the hospital
from his home east of Rays Crossing.
He was born on June 2,
1876, the son of Daniel and Mary Posz Callahan.
On August 30, 1905, he was married to Marie M. Haehl, who survives
with three children. The children are Freda F. Callahan, who
is now confine to the Major hospital, where she recently underwent a major
operation; Mrs. Pearl Scholl, of Hanover township, and Glen,
of Liberty township. Other survivors are five grandchildren and two
sisters., Mrs. John R. Haehl, of Rays Crossing, and Mrs.
Oscar McNeely, of Waldron.
Funeral services will be
held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Zion Evangelical church, of which the
deceased was a member, with the Rev. J. W. Dickmann, pastor of the church,
officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in charge of D. E.
Carmony, Manilla funeral director. Friends may call at the late home after
noon at Tuesday.

Stroke of Paralysis Caused Death of Prominent
Liberty Township Resident. End Came Unexpectedly.

Mrs. Anna Mary Callahan, widow of the
late Daniel Callahan, died from a stroke of paralysis at 3:10
o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oscar McNeely,
2 miles north of Waldron, in Liberty township at the age of 62 years, 5 months
and 12 days. She had been in her usual health and had helped to prepare
the noonday meal. An hour before her death she was stricken, and the
physician who was called to the home arrived 20 inutes before she died.
Mrs. Callahan was
married 41 years ago last Christmas day. Her husband died in
September, 1913. There survives one son and three daughters. They
are Albert V. Callahan, of Union township; Mrs. George
Kuhn, of Orange township, Rush county; Mrs. John R. Haehl,
Union township, and the daughter Mrs. McNeely, at whose home she
died. She leaves also her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Valetine Posz,
and three brothers and four sisters. They are Adam, Conrad
and George Posz; Mrs. William Gahimer, Miss
Emma Posz, at home; Mrs. John Gahimer and Mrs.
Fred Kuhn.
During most of Mrs.
Callahan's life she had lived in Liberty township, except for a short period
when she lived in Rush county, immediately after her marriage. She had
been a member of the German Evangelical Protestant church of Union township
since she was 12 years old.
The funeral services will
be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the church of which she was a
member, the Rev. Samuel Caldemeyer, of this city officiating. Interment
will be made in the church cemetery.

Final Call Came Most Unexpectedly For Mrs. Anna Mary Callahan.

Mrs. Anna Mary Callahan, aged 62
years, five months and twelve days, died of paralysis at 3:10 o'clock Thursday
afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oscar McNeely, in Liberty
township, two miles north of Waldron. Her death was sudden, coming in an
hour after she was stricken. A physician was summoned but he was unable to
give her any relief. She had been apparently in her usual state of health
and had assisted her daughter in preparing the non-day meal.
With the exception of a
brief period spent in Rush county, Mrs. Callahan had always lived in Liberty
township. She was the widow of Daniel Callahan and had
many friends in the east part of this county and in Rush county. She had
been a member of the German Evangelical Protestant Church in Union Township
since the age of thirteen years.
Funeral services will be
held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the church, the Rev. Samuel
Caldemeyer officiating, and the burial will be made in the church cemetery in
charge of Stewart & Fix.
Mrs. Callahan was married
forty-one years ago last Christmas day. Mr. Callahan preceded her in death
in September, 1913. One son and three daughters survive. They
are Albert V. Callahan, Union township; Mrs. George Kuhn,
Orange township, Rush county; Mrs. John R. Haehl, Union township,
and the daughter, Mrs. McNeely, at whose home she died. She leaves, also,
her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Posz, and three brothers and

DAN CALLAHAN DIED THURSDAY
Well Known Farmer Residing Near Middletown,
Passed Away After Long Illness Caused By Dropsy

Daniel Callahan, aged sixty-two years, one of the prominent farmers of the eastern part of the county, died at his home near Middletown Thursday night at ten-thirty o’clock.
Death was caused by dropsy, with which he had suffered for the past two years.
Mr. Callahan was a member of the Christian Union church at Blue Ridge.
He was also a member of the Red Men’s lodge of this city.
He is survived by his
wife, [Mary] one son, Albert Callahan, of Union township, and three daughters,
Mrs. George [Catherine] Kuhn, of Rush county; Mrs. John R. [Nora]
Haehl, of Union township, and Miss Anna Callahan, at home.
He also leaves ten grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held Sunday morning at eleven o’clock at the German church, east of the city, the Rev. G. G. Winters, officiating, assisted by the Rev. O. J. McMullen, of Blue Ridge.
Burial will be made in the German cemetery in charge of Stewart & Fix.
The cortege will leave the house at nine-thirty.

MRS. SARAH CALLAHAN

Mrs. Sarah Callahan
died this
afternoon at 12:30 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
John Miller, in Morristown. Deceased was aged 76 years and had
been ill for some time with uremic poisoning. Her husband died about
three months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Callahan came to live with their
daughter some time ago from their home in Knightstown, and soon
afterward Mr. Callahan passed away. Mrs. Callahan was well known in
Morristown. Besides Mrs. Miller another daughter, Mrs. Brinkman,
and one son, Albert Callahan, of Cambridge City, survive her. The funeral arrangements had not been completed this afternoon.

Following an illness of several weeks’ duration, James Callahan died
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Miller, at Morristown at six o’clock
Sunday morning. The deceased formerly resided at Knightstown, but came to the
home of his daughter about one month ago to make his residence. He was
seventy-five years of age. The funeral services will be held at ten o’clock
tomorrow morning.
