Joseph P. Delon, 87, of Rushville, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, Rushville.
Born Dec. 12, 1914, in Henry County, s/o Horace and Reola (Phelps) Delon. Married Lyda Jo Johnson Feb. 2, 1946, who preceded him in death on Apr. 28, 1992. Married Beatrice A. Elliott in August of 1999, and she survives.
Other survivors include three brothers, Robert Delon of Columbus, Ohio, Floyd Delon of Kansas City, Mo., Donald Delon of Greenwood; sister, Mrs. Reece (Doris) Evans of Bay City, Mich.; close friends Dick, Beth and John Malcolm of Rushville.
Lived most of his life in Rush County.
1933 graduate of Kennard High School, one year of business school.
1946 to 1983, he was in the retail oil business, having been employed with DX Sunray, Blue Sun Oil and Marathon Oil companies.
1984 to 1992, mayor of Rushville.
Member of First Presbyterian Church, Rushville Elks, American Legion and Lions Club, Phoenix Lodge F & AM, Scottish Rite in Indianapolis.
Rush County Chairman of the Democratic Party.
Sagamore of the Wabash and was the annual reunion coordinator of the Company I (of the 38th Division), which for the last several years has been held in Rush County.
World War II, Purple Heart on two occasions, as well as a Bronze Star. Battlefield commission as a First Lieutenant during the Phillipines campaign.
