Rev. James Clarence Durham, 67, pastor of the First Baptist church in
Huntington from 1942 until 1949, was dead on arrival at St. Joseph’s Hospital,
Fort Wayne at 2:40 p.m. Monday. He had been in his usual health and death was
unexpected. He lived at 735 Home Avenue, Fort Wayne.
He was born February 26, 1898 in Indianapolis to
Mr. and Mrs. James
[Hannah Frances Spiegel] Durham. His first marriage was to Hazel Walter
who died January 28, 1945. The second marriage was to Blanche G. Smith
February 11, 1946.
Surviving are the widow, two children,
Mrs. Donald L. (Helen) Mossburg
of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Nelson L. (Donna) Adams of Omaha, Nebraska, two
step-sons Donald J. Smith of Orlando, Florida and Richard L. Smith
of Huntington; five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren and one
step-great-granddaughter.
A member of the South Wayne Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Rev. Durham had
served the Liberty Center Baptist church from 1837 to 1942 before coming to
Huntington.
Friends may call at the Bailey Mortuary where funeral services will be
conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, by Rev. Charles B. Woodson of Fort Wayne
officiating. Burial will be in Bono Cemetery near Dana, Indiana.
